This pic shows the Aston circuit board the the jag body. Maybe a mm wider but still just clips in. Was a very easy job and I'd hazard even a yeti could do it. So that will be the last of the cheap units on eBay. Make sure it had the key as well because that locks inside unit (that's the alloy bit I attached the leather to).
Looks great ! One question though, did you re-use ther rigid plastic 'spacer' from the original Aston board or did you leave it off and just clip in the circuit board on its own ?

Cheers, Gerry

Used the new one. A small pin needs to be trimmed.

My attempt at covering the Jag logo, with some 3M carbon sticky back plastic and an aston tie pin. Snap the pin off, bend it slightly and away we go. Quite please with my efforts really.

Nice job. I think that looks perfectly understated. Vast improvement.

What a great idea !!

I have ordered a Key fob off Ebay and I am looking forward to having a play, fancy using Alcantara to match my interior.

Wish me luck as I am not the best with a screw driver.

Remember it you press any buttons when the circuit board is not powered it will have to be re-programmed by a dealer.

Please forgive my lack of technical ability but can you write a step by step guide please!
Do I literally take out the circuit board, add it to the new fob, and that's it...?

On taking the Jag circuit board out of the fob it appeared to be attached by a black plastic pin. I just snapped it off, and placed the aston circuit board in it's place and clipped it back together. it really is that simple, a direct like for like board.

Didn't occur to me about pressing buttons whilst not powered, but thankfully I didn't do that by mistake, something to bear in mind though.

I pressed the buttons - then did recall you should not do this - had an Oh God moment but it worked fine!

If the circuit board is not powered how does it register a button press. There are no active electronics to interpret it. I don't understand the difference between pressing a button with the circuit board out of the case or in it that would require re-programming.

That looks very classy and much more in keeping with an Aston. Well done smile

Capacitor? But I suppose that would count as still powered? spin

Please stop this nonsense. The dealer programs the car to recognize the key fob code, not the other way around. I hope brakedwell was just attempting to be funny. No amount of button pressing is going to cause the dealer to have to "reprogram the key fob". rolleyes

I think that refers to not having a button pressed whilst you take out one battery and put the other in. That said, if it says don't do it, then I guess we shouldn't!
