Cycling the Wyrnose Pass
Discussion
I remember about 8 years ago on a caravanning holiday in the Lake district, we drove this to take in the views etc. i can tell you now we wouldn't have made it if we were towing at the time. IT IS STEEP.
In fact it was so steep that (with 4 of us in the car, a 2004 VX Vectra deisel) it was getting really quite warm and actually kicked in all fans on full to help cool the engine/gearbox as it was all 1st and 2nd gear. No way in hell would i attempt it on a bike, unless it was one of the motorised variety.

I'll be doing this next month on the Pendle 600. The climbs include
Sutton Bank
Rosedale Chimney
Robin Hood's Bay
Eggleston Common
Edmundbyers Common
Hartside Pass
Whinlatter Pass
Hardknott & Wrynose
Trough of Bowland
613km, 10150m, 40hr time limit. Based on last year's riders, I'm looking at 38hrs and no sleep.
I'll have 34x30 to fail back on. Got me up Park Rash and the Coal Road with no bother.
Places still available - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/12-312/#more

Hells bells. I used to dread going up Sutton Bank in my mothers Metro. Many years ago I tried to cycle up a trail away from the road and it was nearly all on foot pushing what were then pretty reasonable MTBs. Sutton Bank
Rosedale Chimney
Robin Hood's Bay
Eggleston Common
Edmundbyers Common
Hartside Pass
Whinlatter Pass
Hardknott & Wrynose

Just heading over to the Lakes from there (in the Metro) used to take quite a long time but on a bike, wow.
Good vid. Funilly enough I attempted Wyrnose at the weekend. I managed up to the last 50m where it really gets relentless (must be a good 50m of constant 25% +) where I was really struggling and then a van overtook me and very nicely slammed on the brakes infront of me so I had to get off. I was half pissed off with him and half pleased!
The thing that surprised me was the amount of cars on it going up and down. I makes an already bloody hard ride even herder.
