in a high performance car? I drive a 350z now but before that I had a 205 GTi and it was such fun learning the character and limits without any sort of driving aids. The 350z is great fun too, but I feel like I'm not fully exploiting the cars potential and I know turning the TC off would let me learn what the chassis is fully like, as everytime the TC cuts in abruptly when it senses slip, but at the same time I just can't get pass the psychological barrier of turning the TC off, as somehow it seems like I'm signing the death warrant by doing so!

I have had the TC off for some chavey fun in an empty car park or coming off a t junction, but not when pressing on on a nice countryside road. So what about you? Do you drive yours on, or off?

I turned it off in the Mustangs I was hiring as they were autos and removing 95% of the gadgetry made it better to drive, especially doing U-turns at lights smile

I dont have the option of traction control let alone having it switchable on my current cars

E46 330Ci, every time I get in it, it goes off. Apart from when it's seriously cold or snowing.

I did the water pump on my 540 and forgot to plug the sensor for the TC back in so it been off for a few weeks, haven't managed to kill myself yet and find the ability to accelerate without the TC cutting the power quite satisfying.

On the other side of this coin, I recently fixed my traction control for my MOT and I just leave it on. I've only had it cut in once, when I was testing it.

The electronic system is pretty lethal on my old Honda, as it will just jump off the throttle when you want neutral throttle. But I hardly ever turn it off as I don't drive near the limit on the road.
I did used to turn it off in the Corvette, as that was a very timid system that would cut in in normal driving.

When I had the 123d I turned it off every single time I turned the car on. My routine was to push the start button, turn off the engine stop/start function and turn off the TC.

Yes, its ESP on mine so I think it does a little more than traction control. Car just feels sharper with it off.

I find it quite intrusive sometimes depending on the road when pressing on. If it's a nice day i'll put it off. Rain or just pootling along i'll keep it on.

Fortunately I don't have it to turn off. Then again, with 4wd I really don't need it.

None in the Exige, its difficult to break traction though in that unless your really trying.
I always turned it off in my Mini GP, it was useless. As soon as it cut in it just cut power altogether and you went nowhere, not great when your trying to pull out into fast moving traffic.

The Mustang (Current) electronics seem to allow a certain amount of stupidity before cutting in, I drove it with and without and really, felt better with it on, especially in the wet, I had a manual 5,0 GT and in third from low speed if you hoof it in the wet things can get interesting and also when cornering I find Mustangs dont like mid corner bumps and get very unsettled compared to something with independant suspension, that said, my 944 doesnt have it and most of the cars I fancy as a replacement dont either.

I think we forget that the Mustang GT now has approx 410 bhp, kind of seen as almost the cooking variant but still has more power than most cars on the road, the Lotus Carlton had 375 bhp and that was insane when it came out, under 400 seems barely worthy of a mention, we get blase but a 400 bhp rwd car still deserves a lot of respect.

I only drive a 320d ED and that gets its DSC shut off practically every time I drive it.

Only exceptions are weather related.

I've never even used the sport button let alone turned off TC, I just never seem to be in that much of a hurry these days. Mind you, the piece of st has been on my ramp for the last couple of months while I half heartedly try to motivate myself into refitting the rebuilt, again, st gearbox Vauxhall chose to use.

The Monaro seems to allow a bit of spin when accelerating away from standstill in a straight line but cuts power mercilessly if any sort of turn is involved.

Since the tyres it came with are st and I'm keen to replace them, my man-maths tells me it actually makes sense to turn it off when pulling out of a couple of my favourite junctions.. wink

ok I'm gonna take the bait...

I deliberately went out and bought a car without ABS and stability control even though I could have had practically the same car with for the same money.
I would not buy a car I couldn't turn TC/SC off in and if I had a car with it where I could turn it off I'd always have it off.
Some of us would rather not have the balance of the car suddenly change because a computer decided it's a good idea. TC is for people who accidentally cross the limit, not people who deliberately go to it.

I press it once and it seems to allow a bit of slip. But it will sort you out if you go too far.

It's a safety feature after all and it can do things no human can do to keep a car on the road in an extreme situation.

So on the road when anything could (and does) happen I think switching it off permentantly is a bit daft.
