Have heard rumours that TVR wanted to move onto CAD with the Speed6 design, but there was a mix up and they ended up moving onto

No, but Walford's school was approved smile .

I suppose we should feel sorry for these LS orphans that don't have a forum of their own .

I see, thanks. This thread I've resurrected seems quite disparaging about the quality of the rebuild work, I guess now it's 4-5 years on the re-builds have some reasonable miles behind them - what counts as good longevity? 50k? 100?

I know a highly tuned engine is always going to need more fettling than a mass produced lump. Don't expect M reliability etc etc!

200k on a power engine now, all the main builders have 100k 5 year warranties as standard, I have had a few speed six engine cars and never had any problems, my Sag has over 60k on it lots of track days done and never had a problem.

TVR Power give a 100k mile warranty and one of his rebuilt cars is now past 200'000 miles, people tend not to do huge miles in there TVRs so there arent that many above 100k millage but if you get one with a proven rebuild I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Indeed, I'd be looking at probably 5k/year. Thanks for the info!

I guess what I'm weighing up is the relative long term costs of a speed 6 engine vs the AJP8.

I've one S6 car that I haven't spent anything on the engine that I didn't want to in almost 8 years. Then I have another that has cost over £10K in the last 12 months. You'll find AJP's are similar, potentially 20% more expensive.

How lucky are you feeling?

Come on Walford, Walford n kustom something a bit more challenging. V10, v12 you must be able to do better than the most fitted gm engine (read boring) on the planet. Walford and kustom us up something special.

I just spent 10 minutes reading this whole thread before realising that most of it is from 2008 hehe

Thank the lord things seem more positive these days. Generally it appears that the rebuilt engines (by the firms we all know) have proved themselves over time.

I'm now up to 30k on my 4.2 S6, meticulously built by STR8SIX in 2009. It's used hard on track fairly often as well as on road. No work needed on engine since, just std annual services.

Shorts' T350 S6 is now over 200k; http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

So they have enhanced reliability with extra performance - mine still holds most of the 1-lap sprint and hillclimb records against any other roadgoing TVR's, though more to do with car than driver I suspect.

I humbly suggest that these are now precious gems, any previous minor flaws having been polished out clap

Walford,

The firm you have posted a link to are NOT one of the recognised builders infact I'm not sure they have delivered a working engine.
One of the problem builds in the link is actually an AJP8.....!

But once again you try to drag down the SP6.

What about the lousy LS builds there are a few of them out there you should highlight them.

The recognised builders like TVR Power and str8six turn out excellent product you know that but choose to highlight the company above.

I do not include Racing Green on the recommended list as there treatment of Pascal and his supercharged build is unbelievably shocking.

I think we have been here before smile

3 camps of owners

Those that love the S6
Those that love the S6 but acknowledge its design is challenged
Those that fit a LS

Multiple solutions for us as grown ups to decide what WE want to do in OUR circumstances

But we all love the Tuscan/Tam/T350/Sag..............
