Mine seems ok - though you can reduce the throughput from the front vents by opening the rear vent, if that makes sense. Mine only tends to become noticeably breezy when its sunny outside and the solar sensor compensates for it or when I move the dial into the extreme cold/hot position.
I never even realised there was a solar sensor, would explain the extra breeze with the recent weather. Where are the fog sensors situated? I can't find much information on them either.
I didn't realise either of those existed.

Spent 5 hours driving today got out fresh as a daisy. Really is a fab car. Satnav took me a very odd route though...

Can't imagine what it would have been like in my previous car, a DC2 integra!

Spanish E39 bus with reasonable miles.

Probably a nice choice if you can live with a dirty derv!

Speaking of which, do you find the e39 tends to put out a disproportionate amount of air through the dash vents? More often than not I have to angle them away from me as it's too breezy, even when rotating the dial right into the red, never had the issue in the e46.

I have to direct mine away from my face. Drives me nuts! Rear vents do help but not cure.
I found the best way to stop it being too breezy was to press 'Auto' then press the three direction buttons. The fan remains on auto but the air goes all ways. In full auto mode, after getting to temp it seems to only blow air through the main face vents.

Graham, that's individual due to the exterior colour - nothing else obviously special about it, but it's just not part of the normal colour palette. So you get special kick-plates as a result of ordering doom blue (hey, it's my favourite colour for an E39, but it's not exactly exciting).

My wife cures the slightly too powerful face vents by closing it. The side door one then gets closed. She then thinks it's getting too breezy in the back for the nipper. Meanwhile, she's getting a bit warm, so sticks the aircon on, and turns the temperature right down. By the time I get picked up and jump in the passenger seat, the wind feels like I'm back in Aberdeen, and I can feel my eyeballs start to solidify.

Poor climate control. I don't think German engineers thought of useless / mental women who don't understand what climate control means. I tend to stick the temp back at 18 or 18.5, open all the vents everywhere, and point hers about 2mm left, and she's fine.

Grrr...
I think you are right. My GF doesn't understand Climate control either... If she drives my car and it's slightly nippy out, she instantly whacks the temperature to "HI"...

I think it's standard, OH gets in the car and whacks it up to 24. "But I'm cold" yes but if the engine is cold it doesn't matter what temp you select! An argument follows and I end up just leaving her to it!

Then you try to explain that the engine will warm up more quickly and therefore she'll actually get warmer quicker if she leaves the heater off or at cold to start with - then you are met with a puzzled expression, so you give up?

you're pissing into the wind... there's something the female brain that means they don't get that. They don't get house thermostats either. I've explained ours to Mrs 2CV maybe ten times, to the point where i've had to reduce it down to almost pre-school terms, whereupon she gets pissed off that i'm being patronising (which I probably am). I still regularly find the entire system set to 'off' because she got a bit warm one day (she's the opposite temp to most women usually), and only find out about it the next day when it's baltic upon waking up.

Just had a test drive of this, and the only thing stopping me from taking the plunge is that I have to get rid of my other cars first.

Fantastic car. Low mileage, full service history, and that sound... lovely.

Only complaints are that the window seals are starting to crack a bit, and the OBC display is starting to show some signs of pixel fade (but none seem to have gone yet!)

I reckon you could get it for 4.5K.

I don't like the looks myself but only 52k miles. What's the deal with this - dealer fit bits?

Maybe dodgy wheels and overpriced, but I like it. Nice seats!

You have your hen's teeth, you have your rocking horse poo, and I imagine somewhere between the two you have this - Granada Scorpio 4x4 with 18k from new, (very) short MOT and SORN. I didn't even know that they did these! I'm guessing it's the same drivetrain as a Sierra XR4x4? It looks properly mint (as you would expect with that mileage). I don't think that £1895 is particularly strong given the condition?

Edit: There are 9 4x4's and 2 4X4I's left according to HML yikes rare beast indeed.

I'd love to take that out for a drive, but I wouldn't really want to own it. Kinda cool though!

Very cool, and as you say, as rare as it gets. Especially at those miles! I love the looks too, very much of bygone era.

Great in the day, will be shocking now. 160bhp (IIRC) heavy, very thirsty, need very long arms for the gearchange.

Although official Ford parts not a fan of RS accesories, prefer the non spoilered variety with standard wheels and steering wheel.

These were commonly raced around Essex by the sons of Ford Execs (apparently wink)And although more ££££, the Sierra XR4x4 was the weapon of choice, before the hedge battering, field ploughing Cosworth was introduced)

Very nice? How can you tell that from 3 crappy instragram photos and a line of text that says 'I have only done 3k miles since ownership' hehe

To be enjoyed for what it is though, not compared to the coddled, coal burning rubbish that sits in it's segment today.
