I think this thread has run its course and some of the posters here are heading for the sin bin at a rate of knots.

Why doesn't everybody calm down.

And Localwoman, I think you need to back away from this thread. You are not doing yourself nor your profession any favours.
Sod my profession! It is Sunday and technically I am still on school holidays. You are quite correct, though. I need to go and have a sleep. I've had a few whiskies and it always puts me in a fighting mood lol. Must be my Irish blood.

TTFN xx
Localwoman,

The next time you teachers go out on strike, could you possibly just stay out when the rest of your colleagues go back? I'd sleep a lot easier. Cheers.

The council are planning to knock the house down and the next door neighbours. They have said that the people in the community can have a choice in what they want. A memorial garden or two new houses.

A memorial garden is a nice idea but it would be a constant reminder of the tragedy that happened there. Surely the gravestones of the children are their memorial and now it is time for the community to begin healing and moving on.
They could build one big house and put the woman with 11 kids and a horse (on benefits), from Glouscester (I think), there?

my knowledge of us crime shows, just having knowledge of a future crime makes you guilty, the same guilt as the murderer.

Whilst it appears she may have been coerced heavily, and I feel for her in that capacity, the facts still point to a woman who put her children's safety second

My view entirely. However I expect some pretty harrowing treatment and dominance was meted out to the wife by the madman who actually perpetrated this dreadful crime. There may be an argument for coercion being grounds for a plea of reduced responsibility. Personally I would like to extend all the prison sentences in this case. It was and will always remain an utterly despicable crime against defenceless children.

your knowledge from tv shows aside (irrelevant and anyway wrong) the talk of an appeal is against her sentence for manslaughter (rather than as you say knowledge of a future crime making her as guilty as a murderer?????)

Her Barrister apparently said "She was instrumental in killing six children but we feel as though her role in the deaths was not as substantial as the trial judge has assessed,"

I personally suspect not but as he added ...."We will have to wait and see what the Court of Appeal say."

Just heard on the radio that Philpott is to be investigated for further offences.
Not saying what, but possibly rape.

Given the picture of Philpott that was painted at the trial (and whilst there are always two sides to a story, I have no reason to believe that he is any different from that image) - this comes as no great surprise.

It is just a pity that these allegations were not made long ago (assuming they are long-standing alleged crimes) - as it could potentially have prevented the fire from ever happening.

Nothing excuses rape.

I can't imagine that Philpot will get a jury that won't have an opinion based on the publicity of his previous trial, so he could attempt to argue that he can't have a fair trial. I hope that he does get a fair trial. I love it when justice is done right.

Anyway, Drove up Victory road this evening, and the house seems to be still there and boarded up.

Thanks for the heads up. Difficult watching. Clearly the lads next door are still suffering and will probably never recover.

Hopefully the Philpotts both die in prison.
