The third movie is surely going to be about Klingons.
I certainly hope so, as mentioned in my previous post we haven't really seen a decent big space battle in the new ones yet which is rather disappointing considering that it's usually one of the staples of the series and the technology is now there to do this some proper justice.

They had the perfect opportunity in this one to pitch the Enterprise against the new ship but seemed to bottle it for some strange reason. Here's hoping we get some proper large scale pew pew in the next one. The opening scene in First Contact against the Borg was brilliant so I'd love to see a full scale Klingon vs Federation tear up.
Sadly, Trek wasn't ever about big space battles. It occasionally had them, but it was rare for them to do epic battles.

And they did pitch the enterprise against the new ship. The enterprise got its butt comprehensively kicked
Really, are we talking about the same Star Trek?? For me it has always had a huge element of space battles, nearly all of the movies and quite a few of the TV episodes feature the Enterprise getting in a barney with one or more enemy ships and it's a huge part of the fun for me.#

I love seeing whoever the captain might be at the time using their intelligence and ingenuity to kick the crap out of whoever is trying it on and "Fire the phazer\photon torpedoes" is probably one of the best and most used phrases in the franchise. Just disappointing that in abouut 4 hours of Star Trek goodness in the new films we've had barely a couple of minutes of the Enterprise kicking arse.
Yes, we are.

Over the last year I've gone through mammoth re-runs of Enterprise, DS9, Voyager and TNG. There was a similar amount (percentage screen time) of space battles in this film as there was in the series.

Aside from the epic battles towards the end of DS9, I always felt Trek lacked in the epic battle arena - comprehensively beaten on that count by Babylon 5.

Different approaches I think. If Babylon 5 was to be ceased then I think it would have been better to have let the humans get defeated, a darker ending.

But Star Trek was always a bit altruistic and benevolent. I would have thought that doing what they have done with the new films with the time line scenario, they could have made it a bit darker.

The plot tracking back to the old films has an interesting bent but I felt it was pandering to the fans to get them muttering in the cinema as if they were the only ones to spot the link.

And matey Admiral not blowing it out the water on the first shot with the big gun gun, well, what an opportunity to reconfigure the discombobulator and re align it with the anitwotsitmatter, that I do like cheesy as it is.

DS9 had some huge space battles towards the end of the series - and 'The Way of the Warrior' episodes were pretty cool, too.
DS9 got all the best CGI scenes, Sacrifice of Angels was the winner.

Trekkies always seemed to hate DS9 but I loved it.
I thought DS9 was a great show and really miss it.

Yep, some might say she was woefully underused but I reckon she was worth her weight in gold, just for those 3 seconds alone. biggrin

Ace film, loved it. Fan of the old series and films, not really a 'Trekker'.

Loved all the characters, even Scotty, thought he actually fitted in well, unlike the first film. Kirk and Spock shone, they were marvellous, and the ending got me. I felt Bones was a little underused, a shame. I also think he is the closest to the original.

Khan's blood was a life-saver, but the ones in comas weren't, something to do with being awake and active maybe?.

Enterprise is an exploration ship, not a war ship.

We just got back from seeing it. We too loved it - although there was an obvious Trekkie geek in with us, moaning about the final third of the film.

Maybe, but the spanking it takes every time it leaves dock perhaps they should learn and apply some of the advanced tech to it just in case. Better to be 3x faster, more weapons etc and not need to be rather than the opposite!

Something that I always wondered. Was there an occasion when they had a Mick Dundee moment? Call that a phasor? With serious ad guys? Memory is a bit dim.

I'm not getting this...

It got spanked by a vessel built by the federation...an upgrade if you like, a ship that's a little closer to being a war machine than the enterprise. Indeed, wasn't that ship built specifically because of an anticipated upcoming war with the Klingons?

It's sole purpose was to fight a war with the Klingons. It was a 100% war machine.

Superb film very much enjoyed it.

One thing has been bugging me....

Everyone's been talking of it being a loose remake of the wrath of Kahn, surely it's a remake of space seed, the original episode where they meet/fight Kahn etc. wok occurs much later many years after the 5 year mission when Kahn is out for revenge for the events for the earlier events.

I loved it except for one small point...how in the middle of all the hoo-haa does the little (dead) furry thing stay exactly where he left it when even huge canisters and people are flying around?

Thought that too as WoK is Kirk's second meeting with Khan and his warriors. nerd

Here is Ricaldo Montalban as Khan in the original TV series.

Went to see it last night at the Dubai Mall.

Never been a Star Trek fan, but bugger me, if the TV series had been like the film I would have been glued to the TV.

One thing, when Klingon was translated - it appeared on the screen in Arabic which was dead helpful rolleyeslaugh

So I still don't know what was being said...

A possible future WoK....awesome.

"Kirk takes on Khan in hand-to-hand combat, and is able to overcome him using a rod which he pulls from the control panel."
Yeah, one can imagine Shatner looking at the script and going, 'I lose to Montablan...eh-eh, not gonna happen.' biggrin
