roduction in the UK ended Dec 94, then they were built in Bulgaria for a couple of years. 621 were bought into the UK in 96 & 97, some of them hung around long enough to end up as late as a 51 plate. Also made in China up until 2005.
And this:Edited by Balmoral on Saturday 18th May 17:35

Is the SUV a chinese company is building based on the Maestro's platform!
EDIT : even better, this is the Audi A4 clone built on the Maestro platform!

I was just about to post that having continued to google around
I'm not surprised it's survived into the 21 century, the Maestro/Montego was an excellent chassis, way above class average by a huge margin.
Sshhh! You're not allowed to say things like that around here!

But yes. Quite.

The danger of 124's is of falling in love with them
You'll either:
a) service it, change the front ball joints and just drive and clean it revelling in it's over engineered fantasticness
or
b) go mental OCD and virtually rebuild the thing to be perfect
You won't know which way you'll go at first.
Oh dear. My w124 is back in on Monday for entirely unnecessary work. You'll either:

or

Autocar has a cover that's in the spirit of this thread this week:

The 190 was your stereotypical German car, vault build and totally dependable. Nice little thing to waft around in, its still on the road. Don't want to think how many years it was since I had the Golf (mk2 big bumper), yikes!

Some V6 wafting with a very clean Rover 825Si on 35k miles for a bargain £595:

Scratch and dint free bodywork with plenty of change left over to refurb the wheels for that fresh out of the showroom look.
For those that might be a little nervous of the Rover KV6 engine and prefer their V6 cars with a more Eastern level of reliability, spec and development over the original shared platform a decade earlier, a well maintained late example of the 2nd gen Honda Legend in Canterbury Green with full beige leather for £995:

Lots of waft for the money, and an unfussy design that's aged well imho.

I've just acquired a Renault 19 16v (the hot one)...70k, no rot or nastyness, no barrie-ness and been in dry storage for 8 years. Pretty much spotless, just wants a service and some tyres (the matching Continentals are perished
) I paid £275.
That's a good price. I hope you have more luck with yours than I did with mine!

Indeed it was a bargain sold today a lot of car for little money and the faults were pretty easily addressed exhaust and handbrake. Priced to sell and off it went. I do think that in the current doldrums with s/h cars price is really critical. There are a lot of bargains about priced to sell and sell they will as this sale clearly confirms.nissan primera gt

I agree, surprised you didn't want to make it 16
I don't mind a few issues but they can be used as a tool in hide other faults. But 450 with tax and mot, you won't lose a lot.
On another thread a guy bought a 2k car and the engine went, now looking at a 1k to fix.
Sub 1k is less risky.

If you're buying at this end of the market to save money it is probably best to set strict limits on what to spend and when to walk, much like getting out of a casino with your shirt.
