That engine bay just made me dribble a bit!

Hopefully mine will look like that someday, if I can remember where all the bits go!

Update time,

The exhaust systems fitted now & the engine is now running.

19/5/13 by russell.grant, on Flickr

Took a bit of work getting it running due to a dodgy condenser & what I think is a combination of ignition timing and over fuelling.

It idles ok but has a little misfire at lower revs which clears & it also has a little bit of over run when you switch it off. It starts great though and the idle is pretty stable.

I have decided to replace the ignition system now and try and setup all the new stuff up correctly rather than set it up on the old dizzy then have to start again when I fit the new stuff.

Im thinking of ordering the following

CSI 59D ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTOR WITH VACUUM ADVANCE - http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/C-27H771... (would appreciate if someone else could confirm I have selected the correct distributor type)

LUMENITION COIL + BALLAST - http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/DLB111.a...

LUMINITION SILICON 8MM SUPER BLUE HT LEAD SET - http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/BLS529.a...

FUEL REGULATOR ADJUSTABLE - http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/PRO69.as...

I would appreciate anyones advice on this setup & feedback from those using anything similar

Sorry I haven't had time to make a video of the car running yet.

Haven't had much time to work on the car in the last few days, but a few new bits arrived today

Slight set back tonight. I decided that the timing chain was a bit loud sounding & there was also a slight oil leak from the speedo drive housing.

Stripped it all down & should have fixed the oil leak, plus I found a mark in the timing chain cover where the chain had been touching it. I have fixed that as well now and just have the pulleys, fan and radiator to refit. Then I should be back on track.

Getting back on track now. The timings done now, the standard distributor & coil have been replaced with a non ballast Lucas Sport Coil & csi non vacuum distributor, twin hs4 carb's took a fair bit of messing with to get running ok but they just needing a little fine tuning now and they should been fine, the mixture needs checked & adjusted slightly and the idle will need to be dropped another couple of hundred rpm's from where it is just now before Im completely happy with it.

I have a video of how it is so far but the sound quality isn't brilliant & therefore doesn't really do the car justice.

Thanks
Should hopefully sound good, the video doesn't really do it justice.

Not really planning on doing anymore to the mini till the weekend, but I have started browsing interior options & I am on the look out for a boot/bonnet badge

Be wary of the gold "sports coil". They are not what they used to be. I've had two relatively new ones fail (on different cars). They get rather hot, and the cars are then reluctant to start until they cool down. Andy Davies at ML Motorsport reckons the old "silver" coils are better!

I will get another coil as a spare first time I get a chance. Always handy having some backup parts anyway.

Got the electrics all hooked up today, except the number plate lights and rear fog light which I will fit during the week.

Not much to see but I took a couple of picture in the sunshine, still haven't cleaned the dirt and dust off the car yet but it doesn't show to badly in the pictures.

Tonight I have fitted the windscreen washer bottle & the rear fog light, also done all the electrics now with the exception of an interior light, permanent wiring for the remote bonnet opening & perhaps front spotlights.

just a heads up russel, if your using those little blue led type number plate bolts, they apparently will not pass the mot.

ive heard of a few people recently failing on them.

Thanks for the heads up, Im using ultra bright white leds & the lights actually better from them than the original lights. Should hopefully be ok.

Loving the work.

Seems a shame to use grubby washer bottle and brake fluid reservoir though!
