Audi SQ5 - any PH'ers bought or thinking of buying one?
Discussion
Picked mine up saturday from Grimsby Audi - highly recommended -David Wells very nice chap.
Got a good deal - as it was a cancelled order he gave me 2 grand off fitted the DAB for free and gave me 2.5k over book price for my A6 Bi Turbo Avant, for which he has a buyer.
Very impressed on the 250-mile drive back - ride is great, drive select allows comfort settings on everything but the exhaust which stays in growling mode - nice.
Only thing it doesn't have which i would have ordered is heated front seats but I can live with that.
Spec as follows:
Tech pack High(voice,AMI, DVD player, etc etc)
DAB Radio Module fitted by dealer
Electric tailgate
Drive select
rear blinds
load area kit
heated folding mirrors
tyre pressure monitor
monsoon grey
high beam assist.
it is a lovely colour - always had daytona grey or mugello blue on my audis before but this makes a nice change.

They have one in my local dealership now too (Swindon)
Lovely piece of kit, but like an F10 M5, I'm not sure I could get past the fact the engine noise is synthesised through speakers
I know it sounds great, but that would constantly bother me
However, I lovely bit of kit and almost unmatched in its category

The engine noise DOES NOT come through the speakers...
It is a speaker IN the exhaust... So people outside the car can hear it as well.
I agree it is still artificial - but trust me you soon forget about it - it sounds great - and turns heads when you pull away EVERY TIME. I don't think people can get their head around a small SUV that sounds like a V8.
I was really unsure, and like you thought I would be constantly thinking, "I know thats a fake noise" when the dealer told me before I test drove the A6 bi-turbo, but I got over it in about... 2 seconds after I mashed the throttle!
All I'm saying is don't knock it til you've tried it!

From everything that's being said here, I would seriously consider one of these when the time comes to change our ML.
Yep - the resonator is in the exhaust - Aston Martin V8 has the same system, believe it or not!Sounds fabulous - although it is not as pronounced in the Q5 as it was in my A6.
If you do get one just bear in mind that in general an Audi will be somewhat less comfort-oriented than the equivalent Mercedes.
Drive before you buy is the motto.
Took me a while to buy into the Audi experience(my wife has always loved them)but once you 'get' the whole thing everything else seems poorly built and feeble by comparison.

I guess when it comes to being worried about the engine sound coming through the speakers, would you have noticed that was happening if you didn't already know it was?
No, I guess you wouldn't as its very engineered into the system/experience.I'm not slating the car as its a lovely bit of kit, but for me personally, that'd be a deal breaker as it'd constantly irritate me
It's largely irrelevant anyway as having just ordered a new RS4, I'm not in the market anyway

The kit focuses only on improving the engine’s output level and is offered in three different stages. In stage one, the engine receives a remapped ECU and mild boost increase 0.15 bar (2.2 psi), increasing the output to 340 horsepower – up from the standard 313 ponies – and 728 Nm (536 pound-feet) of torque.
In Stage two, B&B is offering additional electronics optimization that increases the final output up to a stout 365 horsepower and 750 Nm (553 pound-feet) of torque. The one that leave a lasting impression on us is Stage three. It includes high-performance injectors, an upgraded air intake and an aftermarket intercooler for a final output of 395 horsepower and 800 Nm (590 pound-feet) of torque. The Stage three kit nets the SQ5 a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of just 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 270 km/h (168 mph).
Along with the engine upgrades, the tuner is also offering a 25 mm (0.98-inch) lowering spring kit or adjustable coilover, a six-piston brake system and a wide range of alloy wheels going up to 22 inches.
As for pricing, the Stage one costs €1,498 ($2,000 at the current exchange rates), the Stage two kit runs €1,698 ($2,267) and the Stage three kit runs €1,950 ($2,604).

Surely the pricing cant be correct? €1,498 for a re-map and only an extra €452 for high-performance injectors, an upgraded air intake and an aftermarket intercooler?

We've got an A8 and an ML. The ML is very quick in a straight line, but even with adjustable air suspension, it feel too roly poly for my liking. The A8, although slower, is a better drive. So based on that, I'm pretty keen, but it will be a while yet. Drive before you buy is the motto.

The Audi SQ5 TDI has received more power courtesy of German tuner B&B.
The standard version of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine produces 313 HP (230 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque. B&B considered it not enough so they prepared a three-stage upgrade kit which begins with a minor increase in boost pressure of 0.15 bar and revised electronics, increasing output to 340 HP (250 kW) and 537 lb-ft (728 Nm). Stage 1 is priced at 1,498 EUR.
Stage 2 costs 1,698 EUR and includes additional electronics optimization which lifts power to 365 HP (268 kW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm). Lastly, Stage 3 is 4,950 EUR and brings custom injection components, new intercooler, air ducts and intake paths. After making the changes, the V6 TDI is capable of delivering 395 HP (290 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm).
Other article had pricing wrong..thort as much.

I saw one of these being driven by a complete tool about two weeks ago.
Coming off the M40 and joining the A43. Forced his way into a queue after clearly (and deliberately) horsing it up the wrong lane, swerved in and out of traffic once on the A43 and was doing at least 1.5x the speed limit.
Complete and utter dick.

I spent an hour or so with my dealer this morning with the intention of ordering an SQ5. They lent me an A6 BiTurbo for 24 hours so i could try the engine. I could pick holes in the engine coming from my S4 (catching it off boost for a second, not revving to 7krpm etc, although I think the exhaust note is actually better!), but as I don't need the full balls to the wall experience from my daily (I am extremely fortunate to have a TVR to scratch that itch), and after poking around the SQ5 I left the dealership an hour later with a quote for an A6 Avant Black series (with £9k off list and an agreeable interest rate/payments).
I'd like owners (of either) to tell me why I should go for the SQ5 over the A6 (I don't 'need' the extra space of the avant, but I do need a labrador sized carrying space as I'm fed up with him having to go on the back seat of the S4)
Final option is to get an S4 Avant but the easy access to 35-40mpg (I have to drive like a nun to get anywhere near 30mpg currently, my long term average is 22mpg) is extremely tempting.

Bought Mrs MacG an SQ5 a couple of months ago and so far we are loving it (I have driven it rather more than she has to date!). Like you, I test drove an A6 BiTdi to assess the engine and considered the Avant as I think they are very handsome cars. I prefer the A6 interior, as the SQ5 interior is 'half a generation' older. But the SQ5 still has a great interior (essentially the same as in your S4). Like you we didn't need the extra space provided by the A6 and in fact the outright size of the A6 was a bit of a negative as it would only fit in our garage with a few cm to spare. What ultimately swung it for me though was the financial proposition. While bigger discounts are available on the A6 (incredible in some cases), we got a very respectable discount and once the likely residuals are taken into account I am confident the SQ5 will cost rather less than the A6 would.I'd like owners (of either) to tell me why I should go for the SQ5 over the A6 (I don't 'need' the extra space of the avant, but I do need a labrador sized carrying space as I'm fed up with him having to go on the back seat of the S4)

For what it is worth, the SQ5 feels rather quicker than I remembered the A6, despite a minimal difference in the claimed acceleration times. The novelty of a mid-sized 4x4 feeling THAT quick will not wear off for a long time! In some ways I prefer the power delivery to that of the S4 Avant I had until last year. And the fuel consumption is really very respectable - significantly better than the Evoque it replaced and a great deal better than the S4 (although mine was a pre-stop/start model).
In a nutshell, the SQ5 is highly recommended. It is keeping me from doing many miles in my other recent acquisition and means Mrs MacG is mostly slumming it in the Polo!
Thanks Simon. You pretty much summed up my thoughts on size and interior (of both). The dealer said there was no discount on their showroom SQ5 but I think I'll ask around on a new order. Their one wasn't in an acceptable spec anyway so best to hang on until I find or order one I like. No rush, jumped back in the S4 and had a great drive, until I looked at the 10mpg on the trip computer ol
Hi All
I just joined to ask you a couple of questions regarding the SQ5.
The lucky few of you that have already got one, you seem to be very pleased with it. I, on the other hand have ordered mine at the begining of May and still waiting to get a confirmation date. My dealer told me initially that it was going to be at the begining of September, then 3/4 week of September then last week when I called they said early October.
So my questions are to those of you that you already have taken delivery and as well to those of you that are waiting paitienlly for a call/email from dealer to go and grab what is rightfully yours.
How long did you have to wait for your SQ5 and did you manage any discounts?
I spent over £52k on mine with all the extras and I got just under £1500 worth of discount, £6000 deposit, 3 years PCP@£820pcm. I haven't yet signed the finace so is this something I can negotiate it in a better deal when I will go to pick the car up?
Thank you very much in advance for all your input.
