Lotus 7 Meeting Beaulieu
Discussion
Ooops, all this lurker wished to do was to bring to the attention of other 7 owners the fact that there was a 7 event taking place (as I also had been informed). I made the fatal error of relying on an old memory from that early meeting and misspelled the venue, suppose I should've checked.
Yes, disappointed that it isn't going to be a free-for-all-sevens event but I can also understand some of the reasoning.
This was never intended to be a 'slate the L7C thread', I just like owners and friends to know about these things and I am really surprised at the sort of response that it's received. Are all current owners like this?
Only signed in for this thread, now I have been educated, learned the lesson, passed the exam and am popping out for a 7 drive and I'm sure many will be thrilled that I'm becoming a lurker and not a contributor once again.

I think there was quite a lot of baiting from both sides in this topic. Some raw memories, I guess. Nobody needs to lurk, and people need to learn not to wind other people up. As I wrote earlier, the secret is to set an example and put a lot of effort in. Help other drivers at meets, count to three if you feel wound up, read posts twice if you're annoyed, and then pause, edit, read again and then send.Yes, disappointed that it isn't going to be a free-for-all-sevens event but I can also understand some of the reasoning.

Based on some of the posts in this thread, it appears that there are some bridges that are permanently burned, alas. Your first post was very much raising the point about the meet (which was ace). Alas, suggesting it is only open to current members was the minor error. A Club's Party is just that, a Club's party. It isn't the same as a sports club inviting back previous members or a school reunion. But the follow-on baiting from both sides was not good.
And what about the party? You can still go down, pay your entrance and have a good day -- you're not banned from turning up, you're just using the other car park because you choose not to be a member. And if there are more Caterhams in the car park than on the lawn, then maybe it is time to launch a coup! (But you will need to become a member before you are allowed to launch a coup! Rules are rules, after all.) Just go along and have a good time, and take lots of photos.
And because sometimes we all need to stop and remember that we all have a lot in common.... this is currently being advertised as a Lotus Super Seven in Germany.... (it has been on sale for some time. I was shown it last October).

Here's hoping the link works, too -- of course.

Donkervoort ? or just wrong...........
It's not a Donkervoort, it is much much worse. I don't know which company supplied the front bits of this car.But look again, and not just at the first picture. Once you are up to photo number three, you will see the crime against humanity that is being committed here....

Ignoring the rest of the thread, that's a properly strange car! I think it's genuinely interesting though!http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/lotus-super-s...

I wonder how on earth they kept the weight balance in check? I can't imagine there's enough things you could move to the front to fix it?!

I might join the Lotus Seven Club, even though I live outside the UK. If the Forums are moderated, it would make for a more pleasant peruse of an evening (and by joining, I could then also interact).
Blatchat was a wonderful help during my car build. I never got round to joining (out of apathy), but maybe it is now time to pay something back into the system.
Hi Pip, if you send me a message with your contact details I'd be happy to put you in touch with the Club Area Rep for Germany (I did try to email you via this forum but your account doesn't accept emails). I love it. At least they have thought an original thought...ok, so quite an odd thought !I wonder how on earth they kept the weight balance in check? I can't imagine there's enough things you could move to the front to fix it?!
Gonna be a bit light at the front

Incidentally, the original screen name of the OP, "Spotb
k". I have found this term in an urban dicitonary (obviously not trendy enough myself), but I don't recognise any specific link to Lotus. i.e. could anyone who thinks their make of car is the dog's dangly bits use the term, or perhaps did a particular person with a Lotus connection originally coin the phrase -- is this term sort of the "property of Lotus or Caterham drivers? (I am genuinely interested in knowing if a Lotus pioneer leapt out of a car after a blat and coined this phrase -- and believe this could be the case, and am purposely not googling this).
Being perhaps one of the older chaps on this forum and having owned Lotuses since the late 60's, I think the original poster is referring to a tale on the source of the SB which preceded the chassis digits on the early Lotus cars. Chapman apparently had said that a chassis ready for sale was absolutely spot on which was therefore Spot b
k. Hence chassis number 1006 would have carried SB1006 on the chassis plate.
No idea if the story is true but it could be.

I saw this and thought....oh that sounds nice might go to that...not too far away and if its a nice day would be a nice idea. Then I started to read the thread and changed my mind instantly.
Why would anyone want to be involved or associated with this on either side regardless of the history?
Pistonheads is for stupid arguments not deep engrained hatred or anger why do some people forget that?
Peace and love

I don't really understand that logic Delmatt .. this was quite obviously a pistonheads stupid argument fuelled by someone (way before my time) who has obviously had some bad experience with the club in the past, just as you say. Why should that stop you going? By the tone of his posts it's unlikely that he'll be there.
Well I got my harness mount fixed today by the great guys at Arch so I am now in a position to think I could go....I might have recovered from the 250 mile round trip I did today by then as well!
They managed to weld a new one in without damaging the panel or the paint....genius as far as I am concerned!
