Why does dancing make you happy? Its a pretty ridiculous thing to do but it can make u feel the business really going for it.

Yes, I know I'm a massive Bender for talking about it.

It's true though. I can't dance for toffee but I sometimes have a jig about in the living room and it cheers me up no end. Skanking to the reggae beat, ya get me?

1. It's a form of exercise, and exercise has proven physiological and psychological benefits.

2. You're a massive mincing bender.

How can I find out where my dad was stationed (RAF) during the war ? (he died in 1949 so I can't ask him)
Try this: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/air-for...

It costs about £3.50

Sadly the online version of the records is incomplete.

why don't the pedestrian crossings beep anymore when the green man is on? I thought the beeps were to aid the blind in crossing the road?

Re the talk of Earth's continents, Pangea etc.

Isn't it now thought that all of Earth's water was delivered in the form of comet impacts over time? Wouldn't that mean that a great deal of cooling would have happened without the seas/oceans existing meaning that the water, as it arrived by comet would always head to the low points ie. Where the oceans currently lie?
Errr, no?
Some of the water MAY have come from extra terrestrial origins in the early formation of the Earth, but the likelihood is that most of it was here in some form or other to start with.

Not sure what you mean by cooling in realation to that?

The water doens't really have muchof a bearing onthe primary topography of the planet. The Continents are "higher" because they are less dense andesitic rock. This rock has deep roots into the mantle, and so the continental masses are bouyed up.This process is called isostacy and is one of the best pieces of evidence we have for a plastic mantle beneath the crust. The UK is still "rebounding" after unloading the ice from the last ice age,for example.
The basaltic rock forming oceanic crust is denser and much thinner, and so is not boyed up. This is why we have ocean basins.

Waters action is very important in all this because it is the most powerful erosive force on the planet. It erodes higher land masses and returns material to depositional basins which are overwhelmingly in the sea. This material over time is subducted back into the mantle, cooked up, then spat back out as magma to form new rock. It's a big cycle. However, the presence of ocean basins is not down to the action of water.
I'm no chemist but didn't the oceans originate from the burning of carbon based materials - when you burn carbon don't you get carbon dioxide and water? I thought I saw this on a royal institute lecture once when they were trying to answer that very question.

I cud be 100% wrong though

Burning Carbon won't get you water: C + O2 -> CO2

Burning Methane will: CH4 + 2 O2 → CO2 + 2 H2O

But I doubt the early Earth was exactly bursting at the seams with methane.

Burning hycrocarbons will get you water, however.
You need some plants first - they fed of the carbon rich atmosphere. And needed water....

I honestly don't 'know' the origins of the water on the planet, I don't think anyone does for sure.

I think the experiment was quite simple in that a wood or candle flame was held under a metal plate, carbon deposited on the plate but was also moist to the touch.

I meant hydrocarbons as opposed to carbon.

I don't know of a theory that says the earth was ice before it was hot therfore ice melt wasn't responsible for the oceans?

Is it a myth that in Las Vegas, "they" pump oxygen into the casinos to keep people awake longer therefore gambling longer?

I've heard this said but I'm not sure it's true.

Why does my (rather striking and attractive) jacket have operable buttons on the cuff?

Just when do people 'roll up the cuffs' of their jackets (except when parodying Miami Vice)?

And, yes, it's four buttons before you ask (bluddy riff-raff).

Iv'e no idea whether it's a myth or not but providing the air supply in the casino is normal then pumping 'extra' oxygen in will make little difference.

Blast of cold air would be much better.

Have a feel underneath the button housing - there should be a little stub that'll vibrate when it's time to cross.

Myth. IIRC Stems from the fact that you have huge casinos, often below street level in one of the hottest places on earth so the air conditioning system are huge and purify the air.

It could be suggested that the last thing the house wants are lots of very alert people on the table!!

I heard it was oxygen pumped into the bedrooms, therefore making it harder to sleep and thus more time spent doing 'stuff' i.e. spending.

I've just done a google maps/streetview search of London, and I can't see any London buses with the numbers on the roof? Is it a new thing?
