Ferrari F40 Values - Past and Present
Discussion
also, i disagree with earlier postings. i think f40 driving experience is sublime. no electronic intervention means it makes you really concentrate. it is a real adrenaline rush. enzo or cgt by comparison feel a bit sanitised, unless you turn off traction and then you take your life into yopur own hands. f40 really is a last of breed car which demands more. for that it gives more. love it. love it compared to anything.

If you're buying a car to sit in your garage looking pretty why would you be quibbling over that much money when you know fulwell you could buy one to actually drive for 150k less?
Because there seems to be two very distinct F40 markets. Those punters who drive and those who collect. I'm firmly the former. The "glassbox" cars are beautiful and perhaps might be £ 650+ before too long, but add miles and you're going to lose money in the short/medium term.
You pays your money......

I understand that, it's just that if you were a 'collector' and found your perfect low-mileage F40 for sale, why wouldn't you just pay the extra £20k? Surely you wouldn't bid 525k for something that wasn't *quite* right? Those punters who drive and those who collect. I'm firmly the former. If you've missed the boat with an F40, how about a Jaguar XJR-15 instead? Relatively speaking, they propose excellent value, a proper race car for the road, they were the test mule for the legendary silk cut Jaguar XJR-9, powered by a dirty great 7.0 N/A V12!! I was up close and personal with one on Sunday, and the noise when you open her up is reminiscent of the mighty Zonda!!

Apart from the fact that they are made of rubber and will degrade, perhaps to the point of failure if left long enough, there is still a service schedule to maintain whether you drive the car or not. Just because a car doesn't get driven shouldn't mean that it isn't kept in fully serviceable condition. Any lack of service history at this level will surely affect the car's value, and may be viewed as the difference between 'maintained regardless of cost' and 'neglected'.If you don't drive it why do the belts & tanks at all ?

The F40 demands LESS of the driver than the Carrera GT (which is so scalpel sharp, so demanding, so racer-like that more or less nothing comes close). Once you've dealt with the F40's boosted power delivery, the truth is, there's nothing else you need to worry about. Sure, an aged "control interface" (old school brakes/steering/gears etc) takes up some surplus mental energy, but if you want to drive a Carrera GT quickly (or even slowly) you need to be even more alert. It doesn't help that the TC system on the big Porsche doesn't really do anything either....
I too don't really rate the F40. Loved it until I drove it..
If you want RAW, the F50 is even madder - "stressed member 333SP racing engine, bolted to carbon tub" make it totally insane to drive. At 8500rpm it feels like it's going to bite your head off. And by all accounts if you want turbo thrills, the 288 is meant to be just as boosted and is certainly more beautiful (I've not driven one).
Modern F40 is the CGT which could be the best car ever. The Enzo is not in this category of driver involvement.

Yeah, fascinating stuff here from those with genuine and fullsome experience of the F40.
The car will never lose its magic for the vast majority but these hands on comments do add up for me, though I should point out I've never driven one.
I'd have one in a heartbeat and applaud those who've taken the plunge but it has always struck me as slightly disingenuous that they are constantly held up as the benchmark for the ultimate driving experience.

They're not negative comments so much as 'I prefer'. I find it really interesting. The people who love CGTs seem to prefer them above pretty much anything. And even though he likes his 'blue collar' cars I find it interesting his favourite moderns are the F1 and the CGT, the latter he raves about at any given opportunity. Certainly received a lot of punishment at track days etc. without a murmur of discontent, which was very impressive.

The 288 is sublime, though the turbos not as knife edge as an F40, and rides the bumps well/good traction.
I'd love to go out in a CGT.

Agreed, but in all my time on here and elsewhere I dont think I have ever read a bad word about the F40, as to if we agree or not it's just a refreshing for want of a better word change to the norm ....I still want one thou ....

I can say categorically the Carrera Gt is the greatest car in the world . There , I said it .
Ive tried everything . Zonda , Agera , Yeyron , Enzo , F50 , you name it ive ragged it .
The Carrera GT is on another planet to them all . The excitement and raw thrills that car can consistently deliver are beyond my vocabulary to describe .
My relationship will be life long , I will never be better than that car . You grow with it , learn with it and exult in it .
It must be treated with respect ( as a REAL 600 hp supercar should be treated )but can truly be enjoyed like no other .
Its old school thrills with modern , seriously over engineered indestructibility .
There will never be its like again , all hail the dragon . A best of such power , if you were to see it all whole and in a single glance it would burn you to cinders !
