Battery showed 12.1V however it was showing as faulty (guess low CCA reading?).

New battery installed and off to test it now (then see how it does in a few days time).

Right, think I'm starting to get close to the problem.

Car starts up fine with new battery, although showing 13.1V or so.

I plugged in my Sat Nav (had 40 mile test route programmed) and no power to lighter socket (noticed this while I've been having this problem, although fine previously).

Wiggled the plug around and eventually got it to provide power - at the same time the radio turned itself on and the voltages increased to 13.4V on the dash.

Drove my route quite happily (all seemed fine, voltages were around 13.2-13.4V although dropping slightly when fans kicked in but recovered up). Air Con seems to knock it down to 12.9V or so??

Got back near home and noticed the power went from the Sat Nav, at the same time voltages on the dash dropped to 12.8-12.6V with no load on (no lights/radio etc).

Any idea what could cause that?

The radio/cig lighter & boot solenoid share the same fuse. I would be checking the wiring ther first. I went through a period of it blowing the fuse every couple of days. Worked out the end off my phone charger had stuck in the end of the socket and every so often it would cause a dead short.

Can anyone tell me (or have pictures) of the exact position of earth leads in the engine bay?

I can't jack the car up that high so makes it difficult to get under.

Also, with the alternator - what Land Rover model is it off? I assume I can then just add the P600A diode to it rather than buying the TVR specific one. I spoke to the company previously recommended from here and postage alone was £130ish!!!

Hi Mattt, I thought I had an alternator go but it turned out to be an intermittent contact in the 100A fuse under the air box. It was making contact some of the time and so charging the battery but when it would disconnect the car would run for a while until the battery went flat then it would misfire and eventually stop. I replaced the fuse and cover and while I was at it relocated it to the inner wing for easy access. It's should be easy to check the alternator output with a multimeter and the voltage drop across the fuse if its blown or doesn't make contact. It's a bit tight in there so careful of shorting if you replace the fuse case.

That fuse has already been replaced last week for 125A midi fuse, along with the 80A in passenger footwell.

Regarding the alternator, mine is from Magneti Marelli, will check regarding type.
This is the ground-connection from engine to chassis. Same connection point from chassis to battery. (picture is from a Cerbera, probably very similar to a T350).

Old alternator the best he got out was 13.7V IIRC, new one is 14.5V.

He also noticed leaking dye around the compressor from the o rings leaking, so giving that.

Will be nice to have decent AC just in time for winter...

Was due to pick it up tonight but they have noticed a small leak from the trinary switch, so replacing that tomorrow and collecting Friday.

They couldn't see any special diodes in the alternator, so have just replaced the alternator with the same type and say that there is no light illuminated on the dash etc. Can anyone clarify this point? Mine is a late car, so not sure if there were some changes maybe.
