I did read it, it's merely my interpretation, I see it as full of commentary. That's the beauty of fiction, construct an imaginary world and let the reader fill in some of the gaps and take what they want from the work. IMO, Tolkein does this better than Martin, though that's not to say I dislike GoT.
Fair dos, it seemed allegorical as hell to me but one has to take the man at his word.
That said I never made it more than half way through book 2 on several attempts, which is why I feel he's not great at the actual storytelling part. And don't get me started on the whole Tom Bombadil excursion

One of the comments on that link:"Is it me or does G. R. R. Martin sound a lot like Peter Griffin??"

d) is Pat Rothfuss. I think his use of language (English, not created) surpasses that of Tolkien and his story telling is n par with the likes of GRRM. His characters aren't quite as complex as Martin's but are far more interesting than Tolkien's.As for GoT and Theon - I preferred the way this was addressed in the book but I think it would have left much of the TV audience confused later on. I have yet to hear anyone complain about last week's torture scene and it's 'reach for the cushion' embarrassment potential.

It's a lovely easy prose to read, it wasn't till I tried explaining the ideas in the book to someone, and failing that I realised how much he tells with so little.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. I said to the lass after last weeks episode that I bet the reason the white walkers didn't kill Samwell was because of the obsidian thing he had.
The books did it earlier and sam got a new name from it. sam the slayer not sure if he will get the name later in the show.was a good episode and is setting up a few cliffhangers for the last episode.

Absolutely loved Peter Dinklages performance in it
Well, yeah, and I do hope (though I'm quite certain) that Sansa will warm to him and see that she didn't get that bad a deal out of it, she could have had (and had) much worse.
Also: Danny naked!
Didn't disappoint, unlike Ygritte, who could have been confused by the thing Sam killed.Cracking episode.
As i know whats coming (book wise at least, some differences in tv) i like the little build ups that are coming.
The Tyrion wedding was ace, especially Peter D and Charles Dance scenes.
Samwell and the blade was good as i was wondering how long it would take for that to become important, i like the character a lot.
2 week break though, sigh, will be getting withdrawl will need defiance to keep me going.

Yeah, great stuff. I'm a bit of a fan of the red witch woman. Crikey.
So the Sam and the White Walker bit - what's the story with Sam's blade? What is it and where did it come from? Must have been asleep for that bit......... Oh, and White Walkers. What are they and where do they spring from and why?

Great ep, as ever. Joffrey...what an odious little tit he is.
Don't think the show has revealed too much about the White Walkers, but clues might be there in the dialogue?
They are tied in with the seasons, and of course, Winter is coming.

The Night Watch found a bag of obsidian weapons....I think at the Fist of the First Men, can't recall if it was S2 or S3. Things happen in previous series that are important now, I reckon that's how'll it be for the whole run. Such as the identity of Theon's torturer.Don't think the show has revealed too much about the White Walkers, but clues might be there in the dialogue?
