Tournament Update: its fallen apart a bit with only 4 of the original 8 teams participating, so depending on your viewpoint our next match is for 3rd or 5th place.

So the next match:

Date/Time: Saturday 25th May 11pm
Map: Damavand Peak Rush 8v8
Opposition: Last Laugh Lunatics (koreannerd in my battlelog friends- the guy who organised the tournament)
Rules: No C4/Claymores/mortars + no offensive vehicle use, transportation is fine.
Server: It will be on theirs

I'll give those who played last time priority until the end of Wednesday.

Who is in?

'offensive vehicle use' to be fair this tournament was always set up to be a test of infantry team work so they have been consistent in banning vehicles. You can set up the servers in infantry mode but I believe this leaves transport vehicles. These of course have weapons on so I am clarifying whether these can be used. As no c4 no jihad jeep unless you can get it to work with mines as N_way seemed very successful in doing, (although I think you have to hit an opposition vehicle and I don't think they have any?) but to be honest on Damavand I am not sure why you would want to?!

Can't make Saturday, I'm afraid. frown

Now that BF3 seems to be winding up - I'm now down to working through the final unlocks on the last few sniper rifles and carbines - I'm on the lookout for another game to keep me occupied.

What other games are you guys playing?

I used to play quite varied games - all of the Gran Turismo series (I was around when the original came out!), Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Soul Calibre, Hitman etc, but never got in to them to the extent that I did with BF3.

Thinking about what keeps me interested in BF3 - it's the varied ways to play the game (jets/helis/tanks/infantry, different infantry classes), the ability to "learn" skills (flying etc), playing against real people (campaign doesn't really interest me) and the number of in game achievements to unlock.

Is there anything else out there that matches up?

Ruse! You've probably seen me say this before but just in case not Ruse is the game for you! Hasn't got all the qualities you request but I've been playing it longer than BF3 and still keeps my attention. Think Command and Conquer but more strategic. You play against 1 or 2 other people with potentially one team mate. Everyone plays differently so you have to adjust your tactics as you go. Lots of different units mean there are countless variations. Normally I too never play campaigns but on this you really have to otherwise you'll have no idea what is going on, and to be honest the campaign is very good. If you like trying to out think other players you'll love it. Obviously happy to give you a hand at the beginning.

I personally love Deus Ex, especially Human Revolution. Countless ways to play too! I to was around when GT first hit the scene, still have my original playstation too. GT5 is a transient game for me. I play it when im bored and dont want to kill people. I've even recently bought a PS1 version of Command & Conquer Red Alert Retaliation! Love it! If it is a little clunky.. Takes me back to the days when i used the special PS1 grey mouse haha!

Spent all evening playing BF:BC2... Reminded me why i loved Battlefield so much, and also how far BF3 actually has strayed frown

Shame BF3 didn't take the best bits of BFBC2 and improve them, in many ways, it's actually a worse game - The lens flare, the dumbing down of weapon power (from the lowest assault rifle to the tanks), the audio is less realistic/detailed, the client side hit detection, the less of an emphasis on team play.... The only benefit i can see after spending a few evenings on BC2 is that i still can't fly the helicopters in BFBC2... So they've done well improving the controls in BF3!

Out of interest, who has BFBC2 and is maybe up for a blast to the past match within the clan?

Thanks for all the tips guys, I really didn't get on with Deux - I don't like games where the movement isn't free flowing, i.e. where there are too many "press X" to do move into cover, etc.

It seems Bad Company may be the one to go for after all then. I'll see if I can pick up a copy at lunch time and get on it tonight.

I'm absolutly addicted to BF3, but now I'm down to just the last few crappy sniper rifle and carbine unlocks, it's becoming a bit tedious. frown

The Mastery dogtag (500 kills) for every weapon could have been a realistic objective, but the Stinger/Igla and pistols effectively rule that out - it would take another year of pretty masochistic play. They should have made the pistol mastery 200 kills.

Thinking about it again, when is GTA:V out? I've spent many an hour on that game hunting down the secret packages etc. smile

I don't think i'll be buying any new games until next gen is out in october. So will probably pick up GTA/GT & BF4 on launch. However if a few people have a copy i'm well up for some lols on GTA4.

Even if we can get four of us together for BC2 it would be a good laugh. I'm trying to keep BF3 interesting by playing different game modes. I forgot how good Sharki and Wake Island are. Does anyone have an objection to switching the PH server maps up a bit?

I may be able to do this, will confirm tomorrow.

As for BC2, I agree superior to BF3 in most ways. More tactical play, better destruction, better weapons and much better maps. Shame I can't seem to find my copy any more.

It's weird that the BC games are actually supposed to be a breakaway series and more arcadey than the "real deal" BF games but in this case it's exactly the opposite. Don't get me wrong, I still love BF3 but they made some big mistakes trying to chase the CoD crowd IMO.

Just picked up a copy of BC2 from my local Blockbuster for £7. You can buy it online for £5.

Anyone around for a few games tonight? smile

Any tips to get me up and started quickly, or is multiplayer very much like BF3 - get involved and racking up points/kills to get weapon/perk unlocks?
