Am I mad? (caution, H-D post!)

Together with 2 mates we're test riding a Breakout next Saturday at the Thurrock dealership. It will be interesting to compare the weight to my Sportster 48 but I reckon seat height is a bigger problem anyway. I'm not tall and my daytona is a stretch to reach the ground where as HD's are nice and low!!!

You mean in the UK they're allowing test rides already? Are the bikes available for delivery too? Might have to have a word with the dealer here....ETA - it'll be interesting to hear the view of all 3 of you.

BMW make their twins for old bikers wishing to slow down...

No matter how slow I might wish to ride, it won't be on a bmw!!SS7
I was the most vociferous anti-BMW rider yet invented 4 years ago...
Then the S1000RR happened. Then I bought one. Then I was totally seduced. Then I needed a tourer to use for work, and guess what? An RT became an option in my head. I am ashamed to say I bought one. Bloody thing is like an ugly dog from a rescue home, but sheesh I'm fond of it! Arrrrrrrrgh!!. Decrepitude not far away, for sure.
But, I am pleased to report, no silly flip up helmet, beard or leanings towards joining the IAM.

...Soooo, I have been investigating one of these http://www.harley-davidson.com/fr_FR/Motorcycles/b... ..
S'OK, I suppose... but I don't like forward controls, and I'm not a fan of the Softail rear end, so I keep looking at Super Glides (probably because some of them are the least flashy of the Big Twins)...GlynMo said:
. Firstly, I'd like to ditch the Honda thing - to me, it's just ugly,
I was going to let it slip, but I just can't!How can you like cruisers and think the Rune ugly! I mean, honestly, look at the two bikes with pictures on this thread and the Rune just stands out as lovely thing (for a regular production custom bike)
The Harley has a bit of style but nothing like a 9 foot long 6 cylinder American Made Goldwing chop!

all IMHO, of course.
But you are mental if you spend that money on a w@nkee Harley!

The Indian will be interesting to see, but probably too much bodywork for my taste.

I don't like cruisers, that's the thing, the Breakout doesn't look like one. And as for the cost, it doesn't matter. It will always have a value in proportion to its value new, same as anything. It's not as if you spend 20000€ and never see any of it again (unless you keep it for ever).

2 words..... Ducatti diavil ( mind my spelling) when I get old I also want something soft, and slow.
162bhp?! Defeats the object of my search, hardly going to be slow except compared to an out-and-out sports bike.Nigel Worc's said:
OP, don't laugh, have you looked at some of the Moto Guzzi's, especially the California ?
The advantage of these is they tend to share the running gear with the "ordinary" bikes, so they ride a little nicer than cruisers, all in my humble opinion of course.
Yes, the 1400 Custom is a contender, but I still prefer the style of the Breakout. Got me thinking though....The advantage of these is they tend to share the running gear with the "ordinary" bikes, so they ride a little nicer than cruisers, all in my humble opinion of course.
The Breakout is going to be a big seller. Many of my customers are ordering them now.....
Main caveat is the Softail rear suspension isn't that great, but can be upgraded.
Be warned! H-D bikes are very addictive. Once you buy one, you'll be forever buying stuff to put on it. Everyone does, thankfully... keeps me in business.

Well, just got back from the Guzzi dealer. Unlike the Breakout, it looks worse in the metal than in photos! Carries its weight well, but I didn't like the torque reaction to the throttle. So, I'm back to the Breakout, and I'll also look at the V-Rod. Fleetingly considered the Triumph Speedmaster, but it's well down on torque and I'm feeling more and more drawn to a V engine.
Hope to hear from you Fletchyboy after the weekend.

You might want to hang on a bit if you are in the market for a big V-Twin as the new Indian range is to be unveiled at Sturgis next month.
Probably look like the old ones but with the new 111 cui Thunderstroke engine.

Just what I was going to post, especially with your comment (OP) re not caring about the cost. I was lining up a Victory Cross Country to join the Vegas in the garage, but having seen the preview, I'm waiting for the Indian.Probably look like the old ones but with the new 111 cui Thunderstroke engine.

But then, I always was a bit "different".
I've had 5 Harleys, and I'm not fussed by any of the current lot.
