I had the sunroof out of my previous car. Wow, even the motor weighs a tonne and it all sits right at the top affecting the CoG.
The seats are the next biggie, big comfy sofas with electric adjustment and heating etc are very heavy.
Nav, CD changer, xenon box, aircon, side airbags, sound deadening, spare wheel etc all adds up. The total makes a substantial difference.
Big torquey engines might hide the pot belly in a straight line, but not when changing direction.
All true, but would you want to drive around day to day in something with no sunroof, shell seats, no nav, no CD, no aircon, no airbags, no sound deadening..etc?

What is it, because if the implication is the CSL has none of these things, that's not the case.

My Caterham R400 doesn't, and thes weighs 510kg, but I wouldn't want to use it every day.

An R400 is an extreme case but what I have noticed about many BMW owners is that spec is often more important than the engine; plenty of "fully loaded" 318d M Sports around for example.

What seems to be missed is that your fully loaded 318d M Sport probably weighs the best part of 100kgs (educated guess) more than a 318d ES with no options.

IMO BMWs have been too heavy for decades and things like M3s are SO full of gizmos that it blunts the handling. Are owners more interested in a tech laden bloater or a fine handling classic?

The current M5 and M6 are even more extreme examples of lardiness!

Tech laden bloater, the majority of people who buy M3, M5s etc are not enthusiasts who take them to the ring and track days, they just buy them to get from A to B/

I'm looking to replace the wife's E92 M3 and our Cooper S with one car so yes comfort, practicality and even a bit of convenience tech do matter.

If you want to go on track, which is the only place you can stretch any of these cars, you want a properly light car, and by that I mean Caterham / Atom light. Anything more and you eat tyres and brakes.

For the normal road, 99% of the time, I don't tend to get the tail out on the way to the Co-op or taking the lad to football!

All IMHO

Anyway, back to the M135i........

A huge appeal of the car in question is that its relatively (by today's standards) light.

The 0-100 figures I'm seeing look mind blowing; are they really clocking mid 10s?!!

Makes a similar priced Focus RS look rather silly.

We will get one; its just a matter of when. I'm working on ASAP!!

Is it just me or have BMW sneaked the price of the M135i up? Just had another look on the configurator and a 5 door auto starts at £34k now!

6.4 is a bloody quick 60-100 time. I'd love to try one of these on semi-slicks cloud9

Same as we want but we will go grey or blue. Sounds great! Can someone persuade my missus that we need one NOW please?!

Would a 09 or 10 plate 335i M Sport be a good comparison to one of these?
I only ask as I will have enough money to buy the 3 series outright or I would have to get about £10K on finance for the M135i.

Discuss please.

Having come from a 330i msport there is no comparison in handling and driving thrills - the m135i is a significant cut above.

I have it above my old e46 M3's currently - it is a seriously good bit of kit.
