S2k. Vs Boxter s

I've driven two dealer s2k now and both had a similar feel to the steering handling .
So Im going to try a boxter next week hopefully to compare .
I drove an early 2.5 z4 a few years back when I had a z3m and the former was much more accomplished in its handling ,the z3 would have been left in the twisty stuff for sure and the engine had plenty of torque for what I need .
I think residuals on an older s2k are going have now bottomed out ,but of course that's not a reason for buying one per se .

Pretty much all you need in previous posts but how I went for a S2000 over the Boxster was because I tried to test drive a Boxster at a local garage and after 4 weeks it was still in being 'made ready for sale', I went to have a look and a mechanic was under it struggling (it was hydraulic lift ramps) I asked what was the problem and he said he was trying to get the plugs out and it had a running problem.
From then on I went for the front engine S2000 and have just got my 2nd one
But it depends on your budget and how you maintain them (main dealer/local/specialists).
I do like the S2000 though, the vtec is so addictive.
I also chose the S2000 for its MPG as well, again this depends on your budget etc

I've had my S2000 for almost 5 years now and still absolutely love it. Have a K&N Induction kit and full Mugen exhaust (with decat), sounds nuts at 9000rpm through a tunnel! I did think about changing it for something else but there is nothing this side of £30k that I like, the only thing I truly would love to buy is perhaps a Cayman R but they're out of my price range for the moment (I still aim to buy one in the future though!
).
I drove my dads Z4 3.0 last night, and it felt dull in comparison, engine felt more torquey but I felt it ran out of puff early on just as the S2000 engine gets going, and there just didn't seem to be any excitement in the engine. Gearbox and clutch were not as sweet as the S2000 either.
Handling wise, the S2000 can be improved with a decent geo setup, someone like Centre Gravity, WiM or DMS, are all well regarded for improving the feel of the car. As I'm deciding to keep my car for another year or 2, I'm going for a new set of coilovers and new bushes all round, this should improve the handling further.

Thing is you really have to scream the S2000 to go fast, you don't the Boxster S or Z4 3.0, and at the end of the day its no faster anyway, and worse on fuel.

Pic of the Z4 I picked up for a bit of summer fun:
The 3.0 have a sound generator fitted. You simply remove the foam and you get a nice deep growl in the cabin.
I don't have the confidence in the bends as I did in the Boxster S or a sorted S2000 though. I thgink its these Horrid Runflats. Ride is far too hard.

I have a 4.6L 330 BHP Triumph TR8, which knocks the socks of any modern convertible I have tried. I was putting too many miles on it, so went looking for a modern for daily run about duties.
I had no ideas of what I wanted, even bought a Peugeot 306, so I was searching widely. I gave that to a daughter after a month or so.
The BMWs were just not what they looked they aught to be, & I was close to buying a Boxter when a mate suggested an S2000. I had never even seen one, but was half convinced just sitting in the first one I tried.
The cockpit is the closest feel I've had in a road car to the old formula 1 & 2 open wheelers I used to race. On the road you can play boy racer or do your hair dresser impersonation, & your S will give you what you ask for. They attract no more attention around town than an MX5, if driven quietly.
Yes it is a modern, with the lack of feel that means, but it is the best I could find in a years searching for an enjoyable work horse, as distinct from a toy. 2 years later I still think it was the right car to buy.

Yep he can drive a bit can't he, & the car looks great. He'd be a bit quicker if he learnt to change gears a couple of hundred RPM before the poor thing hit the rev limiter, rather than bouncing off it for half a second each change.

Question - on this video he looks like he takes it up to 9000 and it "stutters" on the revs to let him know he's hit the limit, When I took mine on track recently it just seemed to cut out completely when I hit the limit a couple of times on the straights. Is that right?
How long did you have it on the limiter? Mine is pretty much the same as the video.doclip said:

Had a 3.o Z4 too and have an S2000 at the moment. For refinement and toys the Z4 wins all day long. And OMG the 3.0 is a peach.
It ends there. The steering was awful, the ride was shocking, the handling dire, tramlined like you wouldn't believe. Put it on non runflats, made it better slightly. My missus wouldn't drive it - she said you had to fight with it to get it down the road in a straight line and I agree.
The S2000 may not be as refined with as flexible an engine, but it just drives 10x better and even the missus loves it! Mines a 2004 facelift on 17s so it has the revised suspension and a recent alignment done at Honda and I've had no issues mentioned on this thread.
