You will lose about 2" either side if you fit a new door to the front of your garage opening!
Is there a cavity wall between the end of the garage and the house ( I'm guessing kitchen) maybe you could put in an 2400mm concrete lintel at about 1m high then take out a leaf of brickwork to accommodate the nose of your new car?
Bit of a bodge but will be cheaper than a new garage door!

hopefully width isnt too much a problem (have quite a bit spare from having measured it all...) your idea would have been great....except we only have a single skin between back of garage and kitchen curses

delighted to say a p/Header will be over to look at it soon and tell me what to do! smile

It's not easy to be sure from the pics but it looks fairly simple to bring the door forward if the rendering is just covering the blockwork.

So to finish this one off - in case anyone cares!

Pistonheader Willikins kindly popped over, measured up, got me a new roller shutter and fitted all just in time for the new car to arrive thumbup

Its miles better than the old one and takes up much less internal garage space too smile

part of me was disappointed not to try the ramp and power-bulge ideas...but this has worked out pretty well!

guesses without looking at other threads I may have posted in which might give it away?!
