This is my MG ZT 190+ which I bought in January for £770 and have done around 3500 miles in it since then. It's been a pretty nice car to cruise around in so far and gets lots of positive comments, despite being in fairly sheddy condition. I also recently took it to Yorkshire, which meant lots of very testing roads and very steep inclines with the car fully loaded. It performed well and was pleasant on the long motorway cruise as well.

Doesn't sound bad either.

So far, I've consistently achieved high 20s in terms of MPG. The most I've got has been 30, but I've not been trying to drive economically, and the sound of the V6 is quite addictive evil

I originally intended to keep it for 6-12 months and sell it on/swap it for something else, which I'll probably still do. There's so many interesting sub 1k cars out there which I want to try.

It's a 99 and it still has the original cambelt??!
It was on the original, I had it changed last year when I got it, along with a fresh set of tyres.

Nope haven't cable tied anything, any more details?

It was a freebie, needed the above mentioned can belt, tyres a service, mot and tax when I got it, so I doubt it would of sold for much anyway.

Even needing the above work, at that miles it was at least £500 quids worth

With the work done, you'd have no bother getting £1500 for that.

If no water comes out of the rear wash wipe on a MK4 its normally due to the pipe connectors coming off on two joints.
One of which is under the rear roof lining and the other is in the rear hatch.
It's an easy repair as you just cable the pipes back on to the clips.

It should still be worth a few quid as Mk4s with that kind of mileage are quite rare.

Absolutely no bother at all. I know of a T plate one with over 100k up that recently sold within 3 hours of being advertised, for £1100!

Interesting to know, I've been toying with the idea of moving it on in the not too distant future.

Remove the trim from behind the inside of the n/s C pillar, do this whilst stood under the open hatch. The pipe is located there. The roof lining doesn't have to be touched!

Depends where your pipe has ended up or if you have baby size hands I suppose.
To do mine it was the removal of the parcel shelve, rear panel foam, rear panel seat belt anchoring point, rear side panel, rear boot panel, and boot tray, parcel shelve anchoring point, and rear headlining trim.

Then a matter of getting your hands and cable tie under the rear corner of the headlining to reclip the connector.

If you have a knackered aerial base it may be a good idea to replace at the same time while the rear of the headlining is hanging down.

You were unlucky!

I've fixed 3 of them, all were straightforward.

It is best to remove the above components if you wish to do the job properly as the foam has to come out normally overnight so it can be dried out.
Otherwise your car will still be soaked underneath the rear panel which can lead to electrical and rust problems especially if you have the 6 disk multichanger in the boot.
With mine I wanted the rear panel out so I could give it a good scrub as the screen wash stains the panel.
If you don't do the procedure right you can break the rear panel by just pulling it back

There's plenty of threads on the Internet all will tell you the same.

But if you not to worried about the car or breaking any clips I guess you can just pull back the panel and connect the pipe.

It only takes less than an hour apart from drying time to do the job properly.

Here's my daily. A 51 plated Mk3 Mondy with the TDDi lump in it. Refined is not a word I'm familiar with.

130k, gives me 50 mpg, you could fit a small country in the boot, and its fairly comfy. Cost me £1100 notes about a year ago. I did break snotting rules though and had to spend £600 on a new DMF, slave and clutch.
Drives like new.

And of course....

Eta - bloody thumb snap! Why does it do that?

Another day, another snotter! W reg Xsara turbo diesel estate..

Took a chance with this one as It failed its MOT.As I won't be using it for a while, I asked the guy how much he would want with the 9 months tax taken off and he said £200.Turns out it's a 2 owner car with 110k miles and almost full main dealer history. It also had a near full tank of diesel (70 odd quids worth) and had two new rear tyres a couple of months ago and two new fronts for the MOT.It's also amazingly clean both inside and out with no major dents, no rust, a clean engine bay and a boot which looks like it has never been used.Even the door shuts were gleaming!

It failed the MOT due to the handbrake being weak one side, too much smoke, one main beam being a bit high and an airbag light. My biggest worry was the smoke, so after getting it home, we tried the simple test of ragging the beans out of it a few times to clear some soot. The first few times the turbo kicked in, my street vanished in a sooty, cloudy mess (hope nobody had any washing out!) but five minutes later, things had improved substantially. This morning, it started first turn of the key, sounded great for a diesel and revving it up produced hardly any smoke at all! It also drives amazingly well and everything works spot on.It even has a nice CD changer in the boot.I will do a few jobs on her and book another MOT later on..

It's paint. No self respecting bird would be seen stting on it and it's nowhere near exiting enough to drive for it to be man juice. smile

I finally picked up the golf today. Been away for a while and just didn't have a chance to collect it. 289k km, bog standard 1.9tdi, 1996. Utterly great! Spent an hour giving it a once over inside and out in the cold easterly this afternoon. It's just had:
Belgian MOT - I need to import it to France so this is good to know it passed all the Belgian tests.
New suspension bushes and shocks
New wheel bearings
New brake discs and pads
Steering geometry
New Glow plugs
It has a one season old set of winter tyres which are basically brand new and similar condition summer tyres.
Came with a full tank of diesel as well.

There are a couple of items which need fixing after closer inspection:
2 x wing mirrors - one cover is cracked and the drivers side cover is held on with mastic, so I've found two new ones on eBay for £30.
Gear stick gaiter - small tear in the original one.
Door locking pin for drivers side - original one is snapped. Found new ones on eBay for £3.99.
Radio surrounds - has an aftermarket stereo which is recent and great but the guy used a knife to get the old one out so it's in need of some little plastic blanking sockets. New ones found on eBay for £2.99
Lights for speedo - currently needs a torch to see the speedo at night. Not found a bulb set yet so if anyone has any clue where to get one then let me know.

There's no beating about the bush - it's a 17 year old car and very obviously, but it was free and its great, definitely worth smartening up within reason and certainly a keeper!

Update: my parents have just left so whilst my dad was here I collared him to help me with the golf a bit. Cleaned the nuts off it and then told my dad that I was fairly sure that the turbo wasn't connected as there was never any sense of boost. Aircon was also not working. The previous guy said that it had never worked and so he just assumed it was a blank switch which was a manufacturing mistake. Anyway, we looked at the fuse box, nothing wrong. Looked at all the pipes, nothing wrong. Then we were just about to give up when we noticed this:

The connector on the side appeared to not be plugged in properly although it was connected. Took it off and there was a piece of felt on the inside of the connector, covering the connections and stopping it from contacting the female part. Took the felt off, and plugged it in. Click!

Result: working aircon and more importantly a working turbo and completely sweet running engine. The thing is about twice as fast now!

Working on some new wheels as they let it down a lot but not got round to it yet. Also need either a new drivers side door or some body work because I found a few rust bubbles today.

Really pleased and just filled it up for the first time (have other cars and this one is not used a lot) 984km for €67.

Honda HR-V 4x4 on a V plate (well, the Honda version of 4x4).120k miles, new exhaust, good tyres, one small repair to a sill, few scrapes but nothing major, 11 months MOT, drives great, £440.
I will have to tax it soon though, but even so, not a bad winter hack for the money smile
