RE: SOTW: Audi A8 4.2
Discussion
14mpg seems a BIT dramatic - I know someone smoking around in an old V12 Daimler, always around town and he gets 16-18ish - and that's a Jag V12!!
If you drive it sensibly I'm pretty sure it will manage high teens/low 20s - if you get it out on the road 'proper' it will improve again I'm sure
I don't believe Audi cannot better an 80s Jag for fuel consumption - hell I know someone with a Series 1 XJ V12 and it manages 12mpg around town

Noooo, merely bringing the key within 5 meters of the car will use fuel, the standard remote fuel usage capability, in fact just thinking about the D2 A8 will ensure your fuel consumption never gets above 5 MPG. They were actually designed by OPEC to ensure more oil is used and makes the gulf nations rich... very devious if you ask me.

Resold by the thieves as 'once cooked next-to by Alan Murchison' perhaps?
Finally, someone actually knows who he is. Nice bloke, invited me to his restaurant - complimented the S8, but I think Audi pay him to do that...The A8 4.2 V8 does 30 MPG, I've done that in three separate ones, on many different occasions. That's not thirsty for a 300 BHP V8 in a four wheel drive luxury saloon with an engine designed in the early 90's.

Looks lovely Chris. Shame you had to break it.

such a lovely car.The wheels look so much better smaller!
Finding these pics has got me pointlessly looking on Autotrader, if only one would fit in the garages round here! (decent size garages but small entrances)

Edit: was just about to email you to tell you I'd found these pics..thought I'd lost them on the old phone!
Graham bin the stupid 5series and get an A8 V8

I'm running a 1998 E38 4.4 on a classic/cherished policy
so they are getting close
Being 15 year old seems to be the threshold with other companies then. Who is that please?
so they are getting closeI'm slightly surprised with you being able to get cover on a BMW. Due to the 'image' of the drivers, (ahem), their words not mine, Footman James would only quote me on a BMW once they are 20 y.o.
The 90s to Audi are as the 80s to Mercedes.
These were truly great cars. Had one new (must have been late '90s) and other than completely feel-free ultra-light steering, they were a great steer. Felt remarkably light and nimble and insanely well built (without any of the unnecessary over-design of modern cars).

I've owned my 4.2 Sport since the end of last year and its a brilliant, brilliant car! I've got the luxury with it that I only use it a few times a week so when I do use it I really enjoy the long drives in it. Great when it's just me, Sport mode is just fantastic and superb when the family and all our gear are in it.
The only issue I've found lately is I could do with carrying my bike now and again and the seats don't fold flat so I'm looking into roof bars instead.

But for just another £1,450 you can have the real deal in great condition with no bodywork missing...

Now that's a bargain.
Why is this car so cheap? It is seriously tempting, but I can't imagine a straight S8 going for £2,450 somehow.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...
