Do you have a tattoo?

Bit of backstory here...
Last year I was in Spain with a group of friends (three boys, three girls), and the girls were all getting identical tattoos on their feet. Jokingly I said to the tattoo guy, "That doesn't look too hard, I'll do the next one if you like." He said "Oh, you think it looks easy? Have a go!" I said, "No, I'd mess it up, I wouldn't want her foot to look manky for the rest of her life." "I didn't mean on her! Do one on yourself!" "Errr, OK!"
He asked me what my name was. "Miles", I say. So he draws an elaborate "M" on my forearm. No f
king way am I tattooing on my forearm. Then he draws this cross thing above my knee (We called it the cross of Nerja, it was on all the signs) and I thought "You know. I could probably do that."
He hands me the needle...
Now, I didn't find out until afterwards, but apparently it's supposed to stab in and out of your skin. I was using it like a jigsaw. He said he'd never seen so much blood from such a small tattoo (about an inch squared).
All in all I don't think it's that bad (less wonky in real life, the photo was from a funny angle), and I don't regret it. The girls regret their tattoos, they don't like what they say, they don't think they look good, but mine will remind me of when I was young and stupid (I still am), and I can tell people I did it myself, and I think that's pretty funny!
Oh, it's red because when I'd finished the tattoo guy slapped it as hard as he could and then rubbed it with what I can only assume was acid. That on top of the sunburn.

Dunno if I replied to this thread. Don't have any tattoos, probably won't. Did date a lass who had a big dragon on her shoulder. Didn't really make a difference to me.

I love the backdrop.....you can still see the words "did the bleach work?"...
Any pics of your backpiece?
I thought that would show it is not just some Google pic. I love the backdrop.....you can still see the words "did the bleach work?"...

Here's the start of the back piece.

Here's ten years later. The daughter is nearly twelve now, so the years are passing quickly.....and I never did get it finished off.
It was/is basically a big dragon, with a castle in the background, with a road, a motorcycle, smoke, a genie, all sorts, but my tattooist left town, hygiene was terrible, so I stopped work on it, and never got back to it.
One day soon...
Here's the motorcycle close up.

And some other bits.

No tattoo's at all.
It will be interesting when the fashion trend changes in ten years, suddently a lot of people will feel very stupid!

Ex father in law - he was a marine - had a load of them on his arms (including daffy duck iirc) from his marine days. He's now about 70.

^^ Coming along nicely Lee! Is that finished now or are you adding any other bits around the outside of the main piece?
Couple of updates from me as it's been a while. We started work on the front section, using dna strings and some milky way inspiration.

I think we're likely to change how the face links into the upper shoulder, maybe change the hair to be darker/purple or something, not sure yet!
Then earlier this week we did the majority of the back shoulder, using an exploding planet earth as a bit of an idea. Really pleased with the colours in this bit as it just so vibrant.

Nice Phoenix further back too.

The percentage of people will "ink" has grown massively over the last 10 years.
tter expose so much? The internet in general exposes far more of the world than 10-15 years ago. The world is a changing place, and I suggest the surge in tattooing is more to do with the stigma disappearing than a fashion wave taking place. When I first started collecting them it was considered pretty awful, and you were either a convict, or a tattooist, if you had as many as me.

Are you deliberately trying to sound like a knob or does it come naturally? So f
king what if in 10 years we all sit there saying "Ohh, you know what, that bloke was right, you know the guy with the diesel Saab saving for a fixie".... Though I doubt it very much! I dont see me regretting having the names of the most important people in my life and an incredibly good piece of artwork etched on my arms.
Its not really worth you posting on here is it? as its an appreciation thread, not whats your misguided opinion on what you see as a fashion statement. I thought long and hard over what I'd have, discussed it with the missus - hell she even paid for the first couple of session as a present. When you realise these fashion statements cost upwards of £1000 and are not simply the result of a piss up in Cleethorpes...
