Car salesman thread

I went to a Mercedes dealer a few days ago as I wanted a newA class with a view to buying in the next month. Gave them my specs and what I was looking for in terms of finance. Left my business card with all my contact details. They promised they would get back to me with some figures that day. I am still waiting!
Having bought many cars I have been used to phone requests not being responded to but to physically go in and still get no response!
Any tips or suggestions on what I should have done different?

Hiya folks, glad to see a salesman thread up and running again. Miss the old one!
Anyway, I am in a spot of bother.
I have been tasked with selling my fathers '07 MINI One and, having only sold MX5s on eBay (which have usually gone in a week), I am shocked to have had absolutely no interest in the little MINI whatsoever.
I have priced it at 5500 quid and is on here aswell as the tree of gum.
It is black, has full dealer service history, lots of tax and mot, and is decent spec. The only thing is that it has done 70k miles but most of that was spent on East Anglia's finest dual carriageways.
Have I priced it too high or is the market in the toilet right now for £5k hatchbacks?
I sold my daughters 08 plate Mini One 1.4 (facelift model)about 5 weeks ago for £6250. Had it advertised at £6500, it had 62k miles on it.Anyway, I am in a spot of bother.

Advertised it on here and the bay with no response, so stuck it in the local paper and sold it within days to the first person that looked at it. So at £5.5k I would think you are not far off.
Why not post your ad link so we can have a look and offer some advice.
Here's the advert.
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...

I recently sold a car and found that I wasn't getting any interest in it so I took some fresh photos in a different location and moved the description around. Made it look like a whole new advert and had a few bites within the day of changing and sold the car the day later! GLWTS
I think the ad is OK, pictures look good. My only issue would be that you have blanked the reg number out as I have found people to be suspicious of this thinking you are trying to hide something. We sometimes have to photograph cars where we have to remove a personal plate as its not included in the sale and fit a display plate temporarily and people don't seem to like it. You are not putting yourself at any risk by showing the plate anyway. Another small issue would be the shot that shows some exhaust vapour which is obviously quite normal on a cool day but some non car people would look at that and think why is it smoking Just my thoughts

Never thought of doing this with cars I've been trying to sell.
Gone a bit quiet on this thread
Having the other half working in car sales makes me want to buy from a dealer as I'm seeing more of what goes on and how they can get messed about. Mrs kprm77 has had a couple of sets of people now who have made noises as if they are going through with a purchase, sorting out fiddly and difficult orders / extended test drives - then can't get hold of them. Finally do weeks later and it's "Oh, we bought another car" - thanks for telling us!
Also sounds frustrating at times - had another customer looking for a particular sort of car (soft roader type thing), they had one in stock which seemed to fit the bill (XC60). They didn't want to know and wouldn't even look at the car despite standing right next to it. They went off to continue their quest. Mrs got hold of them a few weeks later to see how they were getting on, and if they still needed a new car:
Customer "No, we've bought a car"...
Mrs "What did you buy"
Customer "Oh, we bought an XC60"
So, the car you were stood next to and refused to look at, and then went off and bought exactly that elsewhere!
Overall though she is definitely enjoying it. Plenty of decent buying customers to offset the eejits.
Anyone want to invite the other half into the Restricted Showroom Floor thread?

2 - Ask for the business. Obvious I know but most new sales people are happy to give all the information, do the test drive, sort out the finance quotes but then neglect to ask the customer if they wish to go ahead and buy the car.

In all seriousness, it's just part of the game. Tell her not to get down about it and just keep following the process.
It will come good in the end.

Folk are odd sometimes, it's just the way people are, to this day, 12 years after starting this job people still perplex me.

Like the guy who rang in on the Dacia Logan a few weeks ago he thought it was a 7 seater, it isn't and never will be and I told him so, however he still wanted a brochure, I followed up a week later to make sure he'd received the brochure, he had however he wasn't interested as it isn't a 7 seater, well he knew that as I had already told him.
People not turning up for appointments, then you get hold of them, "oh yeahh I was busy/something came up" etc, another appointment is made and they don't show up again, people who ring to say they are running half an hour late but never show an subsequently disappear completely, never to be heard from again.
It is infuriating, however you just learn to move on to the next one.

What's her login? I'll sort it.
She hasn't got one and wants to piggy back onto mine. Would I be let in there (with the Mrs posting), or should I force her to get a new login?Mastiff said:

For the Renault guys really - how is Twizy demand stacking up? Are there discounts to be had?
Considering opting for one late June/July. Trying to make the man maths stack up
I don't know, is the honest answer to "how is Twizy demand stacking up?" The branch that I work for has only sold one, however their was an issue with finance so it didn't happen in the end and I think our sister branch has only done one.For the Renault guys really - how is Twizy demand stacking up? We get a fair bit of interest however it is people that are just curious and want to have a look.
As for discounts, no chance, the margins are so slim that after all prep, paying the salesmen etc the dealer will only make £100 or so and I don't think they qualify towards any registration bonus either so it's not in a dealers interest to discount in the hope they will help towards bonus.
Go for it though, they are great fun and you'll get more attention driving down the high street in one than you would in a Veyron.
Cool - forewarned is forearmed, thanks for the headsup.
There's a used one from Renault Wholesale that pops up at whichever nearest dealer I put my post code into (used search on renault.co.uk). I'm presume that's waiting somewhere central to be dispatched to whatever dealership sells it?
