England bowlers start to get reverse swing very early. Umpires change the ball. Jolly Bob accuses team of picking at the seam. All hell breaks loose in the press.
Is it true? England say no (they would wouldn't they) but the umpires don't normally change the ball without a request from the bowlers. This is seen as a "secret code" for ball tampering.
Who did it? there are rumours but can't name and shame on PH

Ball tampering is a pretty serious accusation. Surely the umpires would have reported it if they suspected something ?
The ball can go out of shape of it's own devices, it's perfectly possible that the bowling side don't ask for a replacement. They want the ball to mis-behave which is more likely if it loses it's shape. These balls are only in use for 25 overs so the bowling side would have less qualms than they would in a test match when a ball has to last four times as long.

It does seem pretty unlikely to be true, but you would have thought that one of the umpires would have done an interview that nipped things in the bud before things got out of hand. If they have, then I can't find it. There is no mention of any of this on the ICC website.ralphrj said:

What exactly are they supposed to be doing to the ball?
Scuffing or scratching one side of the ball. If you do this on one side and keep the other well polished then you can make the ball swing. They rough it up by bowling across the seam and also when they throw in from the boundary, it comes in one bounce rather than straight to the keeper.
Normally in test match cricket you start to see reverse swing after 30 or 40 overs after having got swing the more traditional way at the beginning of the innings. Given each ball is only being used for 25 overs (one at each end) they are getting the ball to "reverse" extraordinarily early. That's why people think they are ball tampering.
Here's a bit on the BBC explaining it http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/41... interestingly they say England were getting it to reverse very early back in 2005.

The Independent don't seem to have any issue with naming him. There seems to be absolutely no evidence against him though. Is it true? They also seem to be accusing Boppers of using the glucose in sweets via his spit to help increase the shining process.
Personally I don't see how they can complain about bowling cross seam or throwing it one bounce back to the keeper as means of artificial roughening up the other side. Fingernails yes of course that is not allowed.
