All you've done there in the most part is gainsay me, which is basically what I'd expect from your camp.
The shutters are down. I suspect you know there's a problem, but because doing something about it is just too hard for you, you just don't want to listen.
Nope, you are being a bit slow on the uptake. The shutters are down. I suspect you know there's a problem, but because doing something about it is just too hard for you, you just don't want to listen.
You said that you had hard facts in your post - there were NO hard facts, just personal opinion. We are all allowed personal opinion but it is WRONG to make the statement that they are facts.
Point me to the parts of your post that are FACTS and then point me to the peer reviewed data.
Anyone see the half hour show about this on Friday Night? http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b02xcng8/Hori...

Why has this thread got so off-topic? Can the trolls not be thrown off?
FWIW I thought the program was good and enjoyed watching. Would have been interesting to see a bit more camera footage though.
I think the programme suffered a bit from the conclusions not being that stunning so there seemed to be too much filler (cameras are smaller for cats than lions!) rather than footage of the cats.FWIW I thought the program was good and enjoyed watching. Would have been interesting to see a bit more camera footage though.

Not a clue. Can you imagine how fast this would have been locked / deleted if the ranting was about dogs?FWIW I thought the program was good and enjoyed watching. Would have been interesting to see a bit more camera footage though.

I don't really understand the logic of cat owners. They buy a pet and then let it go where it wants doing what it wants on other people's property. Lots of people really don't like cats, they hate them and then they see yours s
tting in their garden or killing birds and other animals. Isn't that a bit selfish?
You might think it's fine that your cat wanders around other people's property but they might not. Then you see people with the cheek to get all upset when their cat goes missing. Where did you see it last? I don't know, it just goes out the door and goes where it wants? WTF?
Why on earth would you buy a pet that you know is going to go around other peoples property?

I'm sure you'll get over it.

I would never harm a cat, but I don't like them.

My fiancee has adopted one that appeared in the garden a few years ago. As cats do, it climbs and scratches everywhere! There is nothing more unsavoury than a cat sat on your food prep worktops etc.
Don't even get me started about how they cock their leg and lick their arse. I know it's the way they do things, but dear God!
I dislike the attitude of cats too. They go where they want (that's their nature) and act clever and independent. The one in the road outside our house last night wasn't so clever! Very, very nearly got wiped out.
Enjoyed the programme, maybe a bit much filler but some interesting things too - I had to laugh at the cats stealing each others' food! Found it interesting how cats would take it in turns to use areas instead of fighting over them, I often wondered how I see two different cats in my garden, at different times, yet have never heard them fighting - I guess they're organised as to who gets it when, then. I would have loved to have had some of that technology when one of my childhood cats was in his prime; I grew up in a small remote village in the Highlands and am fairly sure that cat roamed for miles, it would've been fascinating to see how far he got. I know he did a local farm a favour and kept their rat population down, as the people there would occasionally tell my parents they'd seen him in there.
As for the cat-haters on this thread, I agree it's not at all pleasant having cats mess in the garden, but in 3 years in this house I've seen it twice... meanwhile I have to pressure wash my fence every few weeks to get rid of all the bird crap, which is in quantities that look seriously disgusting (next door's bird feeder attracts dozens of starlings - I feed the birds a bit myself but theirs seems more popular, unfortunately it means the birds sit on the fence between our gardens with the inevitable results). Haven't really noticed such vitriol towards birds though!

I think on a scale of 1-10 when you look at the mess we make of the place, cats are way down on the scoring. It is a matter of perspective methinks. What happens to junk we chuck out and all that? Leave it for another generation to worry about, look at it another way and I think some people are just scared of cats and afraid to admit it

I suppose no one owns them so there's no one to blame. I guesss if I lived next door to someone who kept pigeons and they crapped on my fence I'd be a bit narked. But I can't really moan, seeing as I have 2 cats that crap in other people's property. jmorgan said:

The hilarious thing is when they talk about how cats are so unnatural. They then complain about cats walking on their manicured lawns.

The Pheasants here are owned by the estate.Genuinely in 20 odd years of having cats no one has ever complained to me, apart from another cat owner once because my two ganged up on their cat and did the poor thing some serious harm. I paid the vets bill.

Hardly manicured, just for children to play on. What is unnatural is people wanting animals living in their house squatting their unwashed anuses onto their work surfaces, beds, sofas. At least the sh*t we put up with stays outside, you have to eat it every day.
