Well 4 torches have turned up. Bit bright to test but that aleto with a 22650 battery fitted is bright enough to show on the opposite wall in spot or flood. Very happy with it.

The two smaller ones are also excellent still waiting for the 14500 batteries for it to arrive from that deals site.

Pretty sure already that these are a match in most cases for my led lenser p7 and my orb. Might get a couple more of the smaller ones and spread them around the house cars etc etc.

Edit just ordered another three. Do I really need 9 led torches yes what if the torch is I the car and I need it in the house I ain't walking out there

Damn it make it 4 not the bargain those others are but I thought I'd try it for he key chain.

I've just got my Aleto torch working again after getting off to a bad start. I didn't use it much when it first arrived, but the first time I used it for more than a couple of minutes it suddenly switched off and would only light very dimly when I powered it on again.

The ebay seller was very helpful. After getting me to do a couple of checks to make sure it was definitely faulty, he sent me a replacement section containing the LED and driver circuit. It's now back to normal and I've run it for a couple of hours on medium brightness with no problems.

I've also ordered a Trustfire A8 that should arrive any day so I'll see how that compares when it arrives.

Interesting. So far all mine are fine.

Tried the aleto last night when it got dark with a trustfire 26650. I just cannot believe how good it is.

Focus all the way back it lights my entire garden put it to spot and it goes for miles lighting up houses right down the street.

Very impressed. I have to say its easily a match for my led lenser P7 in fact its probably better didn't test side to side yet.

how do they do it for the price with shipping as well? the little £4 one are also excellent have ordered 2 more but will have to order some more on top of that because people are wanting them. not tried the Li ion batteries in those yet as the have not arrived from extreme deals.

I have a question about batteries. I was under the impression that with LED torches, you got full power/brightness until such point there was not a lot of juice in the battery, then you got zero.

Thus I had just stuck whatever AAA or AA I had lying around in them.

After being disappointed with one of the little single AA zooms I recently acquired, I happened to try it with a different (but not fresh) battery, and it must of doubled in power! I now see what the fuss was about with this tiny thing.

So... I'll get to the point, what are the best brand/type to stuff into these things? I would rather just fuel them with items I can buy and keep on the shelf rather than re-chargeable. BUT if the rechargeable offer me more brightness, I might be game to get stuck in.

Well Im no expert but normal AA/AAA batteries are 1.5v lithium ones are 3.7v to 4.2v so i imagine they can be brighter than the normal cells in torches that take only one battery.

I am actually waiting to test this theory when the 14500 batteries arrive.

depends some are regulated some are not a regulated will give a constant amount of light and then rapidly fall away....non regulated will start bright and fall away gradually as the battery dies

Bought one of the £9 ebay jobbies linked above. Wow....for under a tenner, its amazing!

This is in the daytime smile

Mine arrived today. Very impressed for £8.49 delivered. Lights up the garden just using 3 AAAs. Not sure I need an SOS flash on it, but it puts a lot of my other torches in second place.

Got given this little thing today

Pix aren't the best, but basically its a very small rechargeable with 2 of those very bright flat square LEDs in it which, thanks to the shape of the lens, are supposed to give a very broad, bright beam - hence the name Floodlight I suppose

When it gets dark, I will have a proper go with it, but so far it seems pretty impressive for such a small unit. Micro USB on the side for charging

Any suggestions on what to waste around a tenner on? Already have a Fenix L2D Q5 that I rarely use but might as well get something else to go with it. Have a bunch of AA Eneloops so would prefer something that would work with the same batteries. The Fenix manages 180 lumens in turbo mode, anything out there in budget that puts out more?

Without trawling through 33 pages (and PH search is useless as always) - has anyone got any knowledge of the SpotOn 101 torch?

Not direct knowledge, but...

Almost certainly a T6 in, basically, the head of a torch with the battery/body relocated. Not very deep reflector with heavy stipple says this will be a floody ligth, rather than a long-distance spotlight. Cable will get in the way more than you imagine in hand use. If you're used to "normal" torches, you will be amazed and 100% happy. Price is a little steep compared to direct from China, but the kit it comes with probably makes it OK value if you just want one torch to do everything (although why you wouldn't want 6 or 7 torches is beyond me!).

Let us know how it is smile

The same product is available on Ebay for around £25.

I have one I use as a headtorch, with a smooth reflector, and it is very bright, and circa 90 mins runtime.

Cheers gents. I'm asking as my wife has seen one for sale on a photography forum and asked me if it would be any good for light painting. I thought I'd come to the experts for a decent evaluation. biggrin

If we do decide to get something for that task, is there a particular recommendation?

Did you get all that lot pictured for £10 from eBay? Battery, charger and torch?

If so, do you have a link to the sale?

Oli.
Yes, it came as Torch / Charger / 26650 battery.
After a week of a lot use it's still on it's initial charge.
Here's the link, I am really happy with it which is why I ordered 2 more.
Go for it !
My initial order was £9:99 inc postage, but now he's added £1:00 postage, but don't let that put you off, it's still worth it & I promise you'll be impressed, I was.

Well, that one will illuminate half a back garden at once. From a quick google of light painting, I think you'd probably want a much less powerful LED to use as a point source, or maybe a "thrower" with a narrow beam (look for a smooth, deep reflector).
