So I handed my notice in yesterday to No2 Manager as No1 Was away - this morning No1 Calls me and the department manager to his office and starts to swear and abuse me saying that I shafted them over as I only gave them 2 weeks notice (as per contract)- at which stage I have said that I told him about my intentions months ago and he promised promotion - this never happened so in consequence I'm leaving to another company to be back on managers chair - he has no replacement as he didn't train anyone in the meantime so in essence he shafted himself over!
I have went straight to owners office and complained about No1 behavior. He begged me to stay at least a week (as I said I'm ready to walk now) and was really apologetic and asked me to forget last ten minutes with No1 - I'm not sure what to do - I'm so pissed off that I want to go now in this very minute - but I'm also loyal and been asked nicely to stay...what to do now? Will I punish the No1 by leaving (ie. he will have to deal with consequences by throwing money at the issue-hiring someone urgently ect?) or will it hurt the company the most? Or stay just to smile in his face idle and annoy him?

Maintain integrity and leave on the day you originally stated in your resignation letter. Be the better person in all of this, and the owner will remember it.

I'm confused, did No1 or No2 abuse you?

Ah, your edit makes sense now!

Leave, if they wanted you to give longer notice it should have been written into the contract.

Well this is what I set out to do now but it will not be easy and reward for doing so is nowhere to be seen - and I'm looking hard

Agree with this on the whole. However if manager 1 is being genuinely abusive and threatening then quite sensible to distance yourself from it sooner. Sounds more like a one off temper tantrum than anything else, though. So be the bigger man.

Long term inner piece. And un-burnt bridges. Mr Shouty may never want to see you again. But being a honest and fair chap might help get work in the future from others in the business.

The reward for doing so could that manager 1 soon buggers off, and the owner needs to find someone to replace them. The owner will then (hopefully) remember this highly professional person that left the company due to this manager, and might invite you back in a more senior role.

What are your plans for when you leave? What would you be doing throughout the 3rd week since handing in your notice?

This will be the right decision in a few years and you'll look back feeling good about it.....

Now the owner is saying he will make me a counter offer and think about promotion for me - but I think he's with the No1 manager just trying to buy some time? I have replied I will listen to he's offer but not sure why I did that?

You'll listen because you are polite and have personal integrity. You can still turn down the offer based on the breakdown of your working relationship with Manager 1 and your commitment to the new employer. You are in the strong position here with your new job in the bag already.

I will see how it goes - but for now I'm staying till the end of my notice period and listen to what they have to offer (edit: and then turn it down) - do they need to pay me for unused holidays? Because if they don't I have one week left and I'm not afraid to use it wink

What are the symptoms of heart attack btw?

Why would you stay in a place where your direct manager shouts and swears when he doesn't get his own way, and it takes you handing in your resignation to get a promotion?

I'd stick with your decision to leave. You can still say you'll "consider the owner's offer" even if you have no intention of accepting it. They should pay you for unused holidays or you should take them in lieu of notice I think.
