Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Discussion
Completed this last night. I have to say, i love the uncharted series and this game is no exception.
The story is good and does the usual theme of having serveral parts and locations to the story with characters coming and going.
Some of the puzzles are a complete arse to figure out. The 4 animals in the crypt one being the worst, to get that you need to check the 4 floor areas and find the key symbols and match them to the board.
Only complaint is, it didnt feel as long as previous games though.
Really want a 3D tv and try it on that to see how it fairs but a superb game and well worth buying.
9.8/10 imo.
Shall now go back and re do the story in harder modes and try and find all the treasures.

Finally had some time to put this on, having had it since Wednesday, loving it so far! Just been through that puzzle, bloody stupid thing took me ages, it urns out I had the one it gives you in the wrong place.
Drakes fortune was the first game i bought on the ps3 and i absolutely loved it!I couldn't wait for uncharted 2 and was completely blown away by it and to this day i would have to say that it is still the best video game i have ever played.
However,i feel a little let down by uncharted 3.I bought it wednesday and completed it friday. It just seemed to take a while to get going. Most of the early part of the game seemed to be spent either at night or creeping around under ground rather than basking in the stunning locations featured in the first two games. It did have its moments though, from the cruise ship onwards it was uncharted at its best.It also didn't feel as long as uncharted 2 and the story didn't feel as well put together as the first two although i did like the flashback to drake in his childhood.
Maybe i was expecting too much after the huge step from uncharted 1 to uncharted 2,uncharted 3 feels like just a slight step down.
Dont get me wrong,it is still a great game and i really enjoyed it.It might just be a case of trying to significantly improve on Uncharted 2 is just a little bit too much to ask.

I just finished it this morning - I must say that while it was visually outstanding, and some of the scenes were excellent, I found the game a bit tedious - The reason being that there were so many cut scenes, and when you did actually have to do something it either involved walking to an exact position so that the next scene could kick off, or shooting hoards of stupid enemies that would seemingly appear from nowhere and walk straight towards you, and when you got killed by them, you'd have to kill them all again. I just found that you were too guided through the game and didn't exactly have to think about it apart from one or two of the puzzles. Shame really, as I was really looking forward to it but just felt a bit underwhelmed.
The way difficulty has been implemented in this game is so cheap.
Enemies can all throw grenades that land perfectly at my feet from any range, it's like they are all Payton Manning. Just perfect throw after perfect throw.
The grenade spam is almost World at War levels.
I also noticed that it generates grenades without enemies having to throw them. At one section I was having difficulty with enemies constantly throwing grenades right at me behind cover that I ran to an area where the enemies were all on a ledge above me. I was about 10 metres under the ledge with no enemies in front of me. AT ALL, not a single one.
Then all of a sudden the grenade indicator comes up. There's no way at all any enemy could have thrown a grenade at me, yet there it was.
enemies
me <--- grenade ---------------
Also saw some horrendous bugs. At a section in the desert levels I kept losing all textures and had just a grey screen, the section on the horse with the convoys also bugged out. I ended up in a situation where Drake couldn't catch the following trucks and just rode along on his horse for 15 minutes ( I had lunch ).
Also had terrible frame rate issues in some cutscenes.
It's also got far too predictable. How many times can a ledge / pipe / platform fall away only for Drake to catch it at the last second.
I liked the set pieces but the narrative overall wasn't coherent. It was just a number of set pieces thrown together IMO. It's also too short.
On the upside it looked gorgeous and I love that the cruise liner section was actually implemented by putting the boat on a modelled dynamic ocean, so each playthrough will be unique, that's a level of detail a lot of other game developers can learn from.
Overall I'd probably give it a 6.5 / 10.

I agree with all of this.I think they have got too wrapped in trying to create an interactive film. If I wanted to watch a film, I would watch a film and it wouldn't be one so predictable and clichéd as Uncharted's story.
I am so angry at the developers and play testers of this game, and in fact so angry at all of the games in the series for one reason: the shooting.
For goodness sake Naughty Dog, it is not fun and people have been telling them this for the last two games. It's like a brilliant 4 hour game split into small sections spliced with actual dog poo to make a 12 hour game.
There is far too much shooting for a game that billed as an adventure title, not a shooter. It's just strange to call it that, when entire chapters are spent walking between the next shooting gallery. On top of that some of it is wildly unfair on occasions when the AI takes a dump and all the enemies in the area descend on Nate at once. The difficulty factor is all over the shop and the shotguns, the shotguns are unreal.
For this part I shall personify the algorithm that deals with enemy behaviour.
ME: "Doing well here, might be through this awful gun battle."
AI: "Oooooo he's nearly there, better send two shotgun dudes at him from behind so he doesn't see. They'll kill him instantly giving him absolutely no warning that an enemy was even there."
ME: "Are you kidding me?"
Is that what I want from a game Naughty Dog? Good job.
I loved all 3 games but the gun battles are just odd. Where do all these bad guys come from? Why are they there before me? Any sense of exploration that you get in the game is ruined by this. I constantly sit there willing the game to just let me wander through some of these beautifully crafted locations, listening to the music, disovering things and solving puzzles... without being shot at!
I can't believe not one play tester expressed similar thoughts to me and many other people that have said the same. If you start typing 'too much shooting in uncharted', google will actually complete that sentence.
I like many here feel a bit let down by this game. The graphics and art direction is the best of any game that has ever been made, but if you think about it it really has no substance. The story is weak and not told all that well and the gun battles are terrible, so what else is left?
Basically just the puzzles, which are good but not great. I recently played 'Limbo' which blows the doors off any of Uncharted's puzzles within the first few minutes. That game doesn't have the incredible scenery and graphics to back it up, but it has it's own style and is essentially a better game, a game I paid £1.70 for.
A generous 6/10.

The hilarious thing about all the shooting is that Nate actually complains about the number of people coming at him a few times during the game. So the developers actually realise they're doing it.
I just finished it in 8 hours... and there's me saying that I thought it would be about 12 hours. That's quite poor when you consider half of that is playing through the aformentioned gun retardery.

Have just bought this, £9.99 with free postage...I have just completed "The Last of Us" (Truly faultless and AWESOME game, with the best video game storyline ever! it's like playing a film)
I'd say it was the weakest uncharted game, 1 was good and 2 was excellent, but it's by no means a bad game.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
