Any Gordon Keeble Owners Out There?
Discussion
Thanks for posting the diff mod pics GK52, I wasn't going to do any more to the chassis but seeing the mod I will add it (I'll go for the Terry Harris/75 design) before the body goes on, the body shop are chasing the chassis and want it for Monday/Tuesday next week so I'd better get on with it!
One thing I did have done was to replace the top spring mount plates with a heavier gauge steel, the original ones had shown signs of flexing and were a bit distorted. this is where I find out they were supposed to do that.......
looking forward to seeing the Swedish car photos, I wonder what number that one is, is it known to you Oneof99?

Yes, love to see pics of another yellow one, I thought mine was the only one. I've spent plenty of time trawling GK images on the net and never seen another yellow one. Mellow Yellow said:

My money is on this being Ch37. The first of the production Phase 2 cars: Restall reclining seats & integral reversing lights. Mellow, don't worry, - it won't be the same yellow as Ch76 (!). Think, yellow 'gold'...Hi B7trr
Certainly looks good - Shame most of it will be hidden by the body. Not sure about the photo title though as I dont think it is quite ready for the body yet: Appologies for stating the obvious but the vacuum resevoir tank will need to come off as will the steering wheel with the steering column disconnected and droped down into the engine bay.
When I did mine I put in all the brake lines and the droped the engine in before the body went on - much easier to work on and you can see what you are doing...
From the servo brackets it looks like you are going for Lockheeds? I was allways told these worked best instlled at at an angle. I never understood why this would be so and as I went back to Girlings I never investigated further. This could well be a motoring urban myth but thought I would mention it as it is easier to adjust now rather than later.
Hope at lest some of this helps and good luck!

Thanks for the comments sussexkeebler and welcome!
the steering it loose fitted to to aid moving it about and will be removed in body fit, the vacuum reservoir was fitted when I removed the body but on reflection it did foul the body so I'll whip that off prior to refit.
In an ideal situation I would have the engine installed but at this stage its not possible so EXTREME caution will be needed when I do fit the engine, the upside it that I can access pipe/cable routes freely.
Yes 81 does have Lockheed servos and they worked well when in use prior to the strip down, all I've done is clean and check them over, I've not heard of mounting them at an angle but if this is the case I'd appreciate further info. GK52, do you have a picture of the brackets you've mentioned?
How long have you been working on the restoration for 77 sussexkeebler?
Mellow, comment appreciated!

77's resto has been somewhat drawn out - now embarrssingly in excess of 10 years though I reckon about 5 have been lost due to moving house, taking on a couple of jobs that involved lots of travel and generally being mucked about by a couple of people. If I was doing another one I would set a target of 2 to 4 years depending on how much wanted doing. I think you are setting a cracking pace and momentum in these things is very important so whatever keeps the momentum up is the way to go.
My experience of putting the body back on was that it was much harder than taking it off as you need rather more precision (it wasnt helped by only having 6 people in all to do it). Mine also didnt initially want to go down the last 10mm, but it settled down nicely overnight.
On the Lockheeds this is mainly down to observation. 77 came with some fairly shot Girlings but with chassis brackets for Lockheeds... Looking at various servo installations (mainly at the 40th) I noticed a number of Lockheeds were installed at an angle and was generally told that needed to be at an angle. As I said I never really understood why that was so and decided to go down the Girling route in any case.

Hi sussexkeebler do you have any snaps of 77? It is not one of those that features on the club website. Mind you neither is 75, although I have previously sent in a couple of photos...
B7trr here's a photo of the brackets and one of the servos in situ.

The mount for the bracket is identical to the one in your chassis photo.

Mellow- I'm sure you are already aware, however, on the club webs-site in the wanted section someone is looking for a GK, specifically 76 if possible....
Yep, spotted it yesterday and have been in communication overnight. No plans to sell 76 (although everyone has a price!). Funnily enough I did point him to you as somebody who may have a car to sell at sometime in the not too distant future (don't let it out of the country before 50th!!!).Nick's told me a bit about the history of 76, hoping he can lay his hands on some early photos as I've been able to find nothing prior to the current paint job.
GK52, the photos of the servo mounts are appreciated and I could easily adapt 81 if required.
Are you still the owner of 76 Mellow? I do enjoy the twists turns and stories regarding GK's
there is another GK that might available if the signs all align, GK97.
Well the body went on without hitch and the process took less than 15 mins, the main the bolt holes lined up a treat so now just letting it settle..

Has anyone else seen Classics Monthly this month? It features no.48 undergoing a restoration. The body is off and it certainly looks easier than cutting pieces of GRP off to get at the problems!B7trr I hope you are keeping it Italian Red - that colour suits the lines so well.Fingers crossed I`ll see 81 next month.

Yep, the offer I can't refuse hasn't come through yet
Great photos B7trr, keep them coming. Just got back from Le Sarthe, TVR didn't miss a beat and no trouble from
. Can't wait to take 76 to the classic next year. There was talk of a GK going this year but, if it did, I didn't see it. Shocked to find we've slipped to No3 in the Classic Fibreglass forum in my absence!Gassing Station | Classic Fibreglass | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
