i could have improvised if I actually had a garage with tools in it. i blame my dad for the if it's broke but a new one approach he seems to insist on passing down to me

but it would be a bit hard to weld with a clipper lighter and some chocolate buttons.

Cheeky young pup, we've got one of them suckit sets and a talk wrench (I presume this has a voice generator that tells you when something is tight enough), a big fk off silver thing that does something with the back wheel and loads of smaller silver things.
And a hammer.

well in talks with a guy for a set at 410 brand new.

I'll flush them through with new fluid then just slam them in.

I'm thinking of cleaning my old ones up and using them as practice forks.

see if I can't polish up the inner tubes try new seals on them then whip them back on the bike if alls good punt them and recoup some money.

or just sell them for parts for a few quid.

If you need to just get rid of money, send it to me. I promise to find a use for it.

Hang on, at least I've been trying very hard to save him money before I was going to ask him for any of it.

well seeing as I don't know how to do seal changes if be wasting £120 odd anyway.

this way. I have a spare set of forks and can get out on the bike in the summer.

I buy the kit I need, then use the "fked" forks as a practice. I fling them on the daytona and see how they turn out. if good I keep as spares or flog for what I paid for the brand new ones that I'm getting.

i understand for some this might be a piece of piss but I've only just started working on them.

If you're getting a new set what would you need the old ones for?

new ones are on (kinda, need to take the right leg off and re-route the brake lines as they are rubbing, yes im a tool).

I planned to keep these as spares incase I binned it or with a view to having this as a track/road bike. Getting these set up for the track as I have adjustable rear shock and could swap it from road to track with little fuss.

that or just punt them....

I thought they were fked, I assumed it was a lip seal on my forks and it would just be torn to fk every time it passed over.

others said i could polish it off scrap off with a stanley............ the right might be ok but I thought this was gone. Even if I could get the rust off it wouldnt be smooth would it.....

These are far to gone to recover. For the time/effort and money involved to bring them back, cheaper to get a replacement. As a rule, tiny pin prick marks can be fettld and may not cause too much trouble witht he eals, but tese would need rechroming after the pits have been filled an machined, so just not viable.
But maybe keep the internals as spares, might be needed. Unlikely, but not impossible.

Thank you, so it cost me £410 in total for brand new forks.

for new inners for both legs, seals and bushes (plus rebuild from a chap £85) £450-500

what i'll do is split the leg, sand it down see how good I can get it then save the right one to sell on ebay. I will use this leg to practice a fork rebuild (never done one before), then Ill split it for spares.

If they were mine I'd still have given it a whirl before shelling out £100s though.
(The rusting is surprisingly bad though. There must have been some quite major damage to the chrome)

I'd have given them a rub-down, cleaned-out the rust, filled with JB Weld and rubbed down again. Nowt to lose, like.

I wanted the bike for summer if it was the winter then no problem, I'd have a go at it but I got them cheap £1000 from triumph new and I paid £410.

the guy before kept it under a plastic sheet and it never breathed.

there's slight rust around the tank nozzle so if I keep it that next to get replaced.

it did need a lot of de rusting done on it but for 3 k with 1400 miles on it, it was a steal
