One thing is evident - HBO haven't used any of the budget from Game of Thrones in series 6 of True Blood. Having come from GoT the sets, effects etc is all terrible in comparison, they have ruined it for me smile
I didn't notice a huge difference in effects quality in True Blood, to be fair other than a bit of Vampire super speed and strength and the occasional Werewolf they haven't got much to do, it's certainly nowhere near as complex(or as good) as whole CGI Castles and Dragons etc.

A good job you're not all watching GOT for the Tit count biggrin What was it? 127 in 5 minutes?

M.
Wasnt that Mock The Weeks fact?
On that note I don't find GoT over indulgent on the boob count...I thought the Tudors was more plentiful and of course Spartacus had more knobs and tits than a Tory party conference.
The boob count on GOT has gone down with each series.

It's all guesswork, before the wedding, who would have guessed Robb's endgame has pages to go?

I'll have to comment after I have reread the series. Sometimes Danni's story feels isolated. A DWD season would certainly swing it back her way.
It is all guesswork of course but Robb was never a POV character.

If you think of the POV characters who we have followed to the end of ADWD many seem barely started on their journey to any possible destiny and if they have no such destination than those of us who have followed them for 5 books will far more cheated than by the Red wedding.

book spoilers below

Take Arya for example, we have followed her suffering and followed part of her training. Surely we are now going to see her take vengeance, whatever form that will take.

Dany is still sat around hundreds of miles from home. I would hope she has some bearing on the final story after following her for so long, but her plotline as well is still a long way from being resolved.

Yes there are some POV charcters who can be killed off and leave little trace, but the characters above plus Tyrion and Jon are what the whole series is about for me.

I've read the first couple hundred pages of A storm of swords and not really clicked with the layout of the books, in terms of a chapter a character.
I've watched series 3. I thought that series 3 would have summed up both books steel and snow and blood and gold so I was reading the plot of the books in wikipedia. Found out something I didn't want to.

So my advice is don't read the plot summary of A storm of swords biggrin

It is a fairly common narrative style in fantasy and sci-fi.

I don't know what GRRM's approach is. But bear in mind that many of the finished chapters (and ones he has read out at various conventions/Tours etc) are ones bumped back from ADWD.

As of October 2012, the Winds of Winter release date was still a long way off -- Martin announced he had written about 400 pages out of 1500, out of which around 200 were "really finished." Nevertheless, in the same interview, he said that "the sixth volume won't be released in 2012 or in 2013. I really look forward to publishing it in 2014, but I am really bad for predictions... when I finish this saga I will be judged for the quality of the books, not for the speed of my writing
Interesting, thanks for that info, seems like he's not as far along as he stated at Eastercon 2012. It doesn't seem to change his expected publication date for book 6 is pretty much unchanged though.

I guess conflict between book 7 being ready and the final season of the show will largely depend on other commitments he makes - he did say that work on book 6 was going to be delayed as he had a number of screenplays (not GoT) and short stories to deliver before he got on with it. That probably explains lack of progress from Eastercon to October 2012.

Must admit never have much of a frigging clue wtf Bran and co were meant to be doing in the books. Buggering about talking to trees as far as I could make out. Their little bubble just seems a story arc/bubble that is distinctly separate from the main plot. At least with Dani you can see the threads between her arc and situation and back to Westeros. Same again when it moves down to Dorne even though it takes you a while to identify with the characters, but at least he builds some material there for you to work with.

In my imagination I can see that being potentially key to the finale.

Conjecture:

I can see Jon Snow, aided by Stannis, putting up a brave but ultimately doomed defence of the wall which falls to the WW and Zombies. The whole battle moves south where the forces of Westeros make a stand. All looks lost until Dany turns up with her hordes and they all fight to a stnadstill. Things still look grim and the heroes are facing doom when Bran does something magicy and they all win.

Then an army turns up from Dorne and kicks everyone's arses while they're weakened...

My thoughts,

there are 3 dragons, we know in the past they got big enough for people to ride them. Dany will ride one, who will ride the others. My speculation is that its going to be Tyrion and Jon Snow on the others. I would suspect that one of the dragons will be smaller than the others and not able to carry a full size human, hence the half man

If you haven't seen it you could also try.

Rome - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384766/?ref_=fn_al_tt...
yes Rome was very good, not quite as harsh as GOT but lots of intrigue and backstabbing going on.
Oh, and tits.

I haven't read much fantasy/sci fi before to be honest.
Having another go at reading them however. Can't wait for the next series to find out what happens.

Now that we're done talking about the books... I thought Ep.10 ended as fairly positive for most everybody (who's still alive-ishsmile). Yes everything is unresolved but all the stories seem to be at natural pause points. And set up well to re-start after the break. Imagine trying to work that all out... A++ for all involved.
I did suffer a flash of anxiety as Ginger was putting arrows into Jon Snow, but that balanced with the (uncharacteristic) warmth of Gilly being allowed to stay with the nightwatchmen.

How I recover from the harsh realities of a fantasy television program: Kittens! woohoo
http://new.livestream.com/FosterKittenCam/Mythbust...
Watch “Foster Dad” John’s newest foster kittens and their mama grow up, live!, on Livestream.com. Odd-eyed Mama is Kari. The grey tabby is Grant. The cream-colored is Adam. The kitten with the dark splotches on the head is Tory, orange splotches is Jamie.
This is the 34th+/- (eek I kid you not!) litter of stray/abandoned/orphaned kittens John has fostered, though only the most recent 4 or 5 have been "televised".
