Aston Martin advice from Bamford Rose independent specialist
Discussion
Hi Noddy - just saw your post and had experienced something similar. Noting that you have a roadster - have them check the CRM - controls the hood. This has been known to fail, and i had mine replaced. everything was back to working order. Think its about £600 all in IIRC.
Mike might know of another reason, but thought i would jump in, as it was quite unnerving (good game to try and guess what speed you are doing) driving without any instrument panels, and had the Aston guys puzzled the first time it went it for diagnosis.

Hi Mike,
Unfortunately my 2008 V8 Vantage convertible 4.3 manual went wrong for the first time in my ownership on the way back from Wales. On re-entering the car on a petrol filling station forecourt, I was greeted with ABS, brake failure warning light and info display telling me of a need to stop the car when safe to do so, this was also accompanied by intermittent loss of panel lights and all instruments. At pulling up at motorway services I seemed to have sidelights staying on and all other manner of instrument related problems. The car drives absolutely fine, but because of loss of indicators etc., had to be AA recovered to home. Have tried battery disconnection and re-boot which seems for a few seconds to make a difference but then the warning lights as above return, brake function seems unaffected. Suspect I have some sort of body computer fault, and wondered about the location of this, JCT600 could only suggest 'you have a major electronics failure'. Any suggestions of anything I can check for myself would be much appreciated, I have 33 years motor trade experience!
Similar symptoms to my S when the battery lost two cells and refused to hold a charge.Unfortunately my 2008 V8 Vantage convertible 4.3 manual went wrong for the first time in my ownership on the way back from Wales. Check the voltage with the car off (~12V) and idling ~(13.5V)
Thanks for the replies thus far, battery condition has been checked, charge rate is excellent, I have known this type of fault on other makes of car be related to an alternator/battery fault.
I'm interested in the electric hood ECU idea, to check I could do with finding it's location, whether its plug and play, or will it need programme.
On another forum I have spotted, its been suggested that the unit lies in a rear wheel arch, but any advice appreciated.

Roof module is a reasonable guess - every time I go on a big trip I am tempted to have mine changed out preventatively as failure leads to... well, pretty much what you have!
I believe it can be disconnected allowing you to drive safely with all the controls working again but have no roof operation. As to where it is... you'll need one of the grown ups for that

Here's the update on the "Convertible Roof Module" for the V8 roadster.
On my car the unit was behind the o/s/r wheel arch liner, in the rear top corner effectively on the underside of where you tyre inflator kit is.
There is a black composite panel held by four bolts undo these and the crm is on the other side of this.Remove the two plug connectors and unbolt the unit. My new part was supplied from the factory via my local dealer, when plugged in I did a window reset with the doors open as in the handbook and the tried to operate the roof "ta da" it all works.
I suspect that the unit is pre programmed to my chassis no.
All my dash warnings have gone, ie abs, stop brake fail, traction light, eml light, Intermittent dash panel failure, indicators failed.
I should add that if you disconnect the old suspect unit first and re boot the ignition if the fault is down to your crm all your dash warnings etc will disappear.
I've got to say I was dancing round my garage when everything worked without programming.

I am a new owner to Aston, having recently bought a 2003 Vanquish, with some cosmetic VanquishS upgrades, just over 23k miles, and the car now refuses to select gear. The brake switch is good, the ASM pump is working fine, fluid levels are fine, pump relay operational, the specialist looking at the car suspects the position sensors. I know that the updated Vanquish S sensors are retro fitted to cars when a problem occurs, but what is involved in fitment? Is it a job only for Aston main dealer, or specialists with Aston diagnostics?
I am in the south of Ireland, there is no dealership here.

Might be worth contacting http://www.astonmartinjaguarireland.com/
Apparently the owner is former service manager at Charles Hurst and is a fan of Vanquishes

I have spoken with him, he does not have the tooling needed to set up the transmission. Apparently, the only people who do on this island are Hurst's, in the north. I have contacted Bamford Rose, and await a reply,Apparently the owner is former service manager at Charles Hurst and is a fan of Vanquishes
Now and again, my sportshift 08 V8V Roadster changes up a gear for a split second when I pull the paddle, then reverts back to the previous gear. It doesn't do it all the time, just now and again. Should I be concerned at all? I had an SMG M3 a few years ago which became a bit of a pain with gearbox issues to say the least...
I do the clutch reset pretty much every time I use it.

All gone very quiet from BR?
There have been a few issues outside the business for several of the team
Mike tells me it is all settling back down now and "normal service will resume shortly"

Most the parts for Johnny 550 are in so hopefully "Bruce Almighty" will be laying hands on shortly!
Guess where Pearl is right now? .... and guess what she is having done?

Happy days are here again - or very nearly!
We are on the 3-week-countdown to this year's big tour - Alpine South with Petrolhead Nirvana - by which time we have been told (and I have some difficulty believing this) that Pearl 'should eclipse Purdey'!

PS Sorry Woollie - I meant 2nd biggest tour of the year after the JLC tour obviously xx

Just used Bamford Rose for the first time and Id like to publicly thank Mike and his team for all their help!
Id bought my car a couple of months ago from a non franchised dealer and was in a bit of a rush when I did it. I had felt there was something niggling with the steering, most likely because of an awful set of 21" Kahns the previous owner had fitted (that I immediately changed back to standard!)and although the car had been serviced only a couple of months before by Aston I was still a little nervous! I checked her in with Bamford when I moved to London last month and talked through each issue with Mike and now theyre all sorted, including a detail which has brought the paint back up to standard. I now have the car which looks and drives as good as Id always hoped! Now its definitely a keeper.......havent we all heard that before!!
Not the best photo!
