Who would put money of Brawn being there at the start of next season?
I wouldn't even put money on Brawn being there at the start of FP1 at Silverstone.

Really?

Whole thing is a storm in a champagne glass. My guess:

Brawn has get out of jail free email from FIA exec
FIA blame break down in communications - "Lessons will be learned"
Process and Rule clarification issued...
Mid to late season levelling test with all teams invited during summer break, funded by Pirelli for main costs.

I guess that's the most likely outcome.

But we shall see!

Someone else had the same thought about Whiting that I posted a few pages back http://www.grandprixmerchandise.co.uk/formula-1-is...

All conjecture at this point but it could be this has some way to go yet.

Yep. Or something equally pointless from the FIA to try and prove they are in charge.

That is a concern.

My bet though is that there will be a desire not to rock the boat so near to the flotation. The FIA coming out as reasonable, responsible and proportionate (for a change) might make it appear as if everything in the garden, etc.

Given Todt's apparent desire to extract more tribute from F1, perhaps "for a change" should instead read "for a charge"?

Personally F1 is just politics and teams will always complain about tyres or each other. I would just have all f1 cars with same engine, chassis etc.

In terms of this "Secret" test that Mercedes & Pirelli did, the media has blown this right out of proportion - just let the drivers race - why are Red Bull & Ferrari complaining - aren't they bring back in season testing for 2014?

To be fair, F1 used to be the biggest single source of income for the FIA. Now, for reasons that are obscure, to say the most, that money stays with CVC. That's why there's been the big hike in international licences. There was talk about moving out of the Place de la Concord.

Given that the FIA had secured $100,000,000 from McLaren one might have thought that they would have invested it in something useful and got some returns from the interest.

  • Tin foil hats on**
This is going to have some casualties, my guess is Charlie Whiting. I get the feeling Mercedes will be found guilty and be given a hefty fine, maybe suspended because of the email from Whiting. Jean Todt will use this as a way to remove Whiting. I would not be too surprised if Toto Wolfe uses this as an excuse to replace Brawn as he has been employing people to fulfil his role for a while. Cue Brawn in talk with Mclaren and taking over at the end of the season.

Brawn to Mclaren would be interesting. How long is the Perez contract? Maybe he could spring Kimi...

The $100m (if we assume that the FIA actually received all of that cash; some was due to come from FOM in lieu of winnings) was supposedly hypothecated to provide an endowment for the FIA Foundation (or whatever it was called); it wasn't IIRC available for general funds, nor was any interest accrued on it.

I don't disagree about the history. However, that ship has sailed; the FIA cannot retain credibility if it uses foul means to "make right" the supposed wrong of the F1 rights' sale to BE. The hikes in superlicence fees were one such attempt; if the FIA want to renegotiate / annul the FOM / CVC / Bambino / whoever contract, they ought IMHO to do so legally and transparently.

Edited for spelling.

so despite this new format of hearing (tribunal) for mercedes and pirelli, to which the regulations explicitly allow media access, apparently tweeting is banned inside. seems a bit pointless to let the journalists in if you don't want them to report.

It appears that Horner has made an appearance at the tribunal. There may be a perfectly rational explanation for this, but if not, he would seem to be banking a lot of ill will on behalf of Red Bull.

The piranah club seems to be more of a shiver of sharks at the moment.

FIA defence - The FIA insists that Mercedes and Pirelli were never granted official permission by the governing body to run its 2013 car during the post-Spanish Grand Prix test.

Furthermore, it claims that that any indication of approval Mercedes had to use its current car by F1 race director Charlie Whiting was 'irrelevant'.

Isn't it ironic that he is so against this, when for the last few years it has been his team really pushing the limits of the legal/illegal boundaries.

"any indication of approval you got from our representative is irrelevant" ... and we just expected you to know that magically.
