Never mind the Germans, a "new TVR" will have to be quite something to get anywhere near this performance and value.
Honestly, given the poor reputation TVR had for build quality etc, I doubt they'd ever be able to compete with the relatively inexpensive and better made Corvette. A base Stingray sells for only about $48,000 plus taxes and on-road costs (say 32 grand in pounds). If they built these things in RHD (and sold them for more sensible money) Lotus etc would probably die a death.

If only they did a RHD diesel estate version that went round corners, had great interior plastics, and was priced at no more than 20k; I'd still find a completely retarded reason not to buy one.

I like it from every angle but the rear, it is just so damn ugly it ruins the rest of the car!..

The new vette as with the old ones are an amazing bargain in the right market, it is just a shame there are so many numptys who just parrot whatever Jeremy Clarkson says as their opinion without putting their brain in gear. It is a shame because they are missing out on one of the best bang for buck cars in the market!

Hey ho!

Much as I love this Corvette I feel GM has still some catching up to do in the engine output department.

Audi's RS5 (4.2L naturally aspirated V8 produces 460bhp).

Does Audi make better engines than GM, maybe.

Top Gear is off air so the Clarkson syndrome has faded a bit.
But it is far too wide for UK roads.
If only the mirrors folded....frown
Do they make my "ass" look big?
And the interior plastics are not up to European counterparts. Probably.

The reasons for the cars being so expensive over here has nothing to do with being ripped off by GM were being ripped off by HMRC. From what I can gather the UK spec cars are all top spec (no real options left) to start with that jacks the price right up, you then have the shipping costs of the car, plus the cost of the UK spec lighting components. You then have the costs associated with import duty, this is charged on the cost of the car, the shipping, the shipping insurance and even on the costs paid to transport the car in the US (if it is included on the bill of sale), and then 20% VAT which gets charged on top of everything (yes you are getting taxed on the tax you pay), plus the customs processing fee and then UK registration.

I wonder will you be able to push the rear bumper panel in and out with with your finger?
I imagine you will as you can on most US cars which is a good thing imho as it takes a fairly substantial impact to crack or deform the bumper, a typical parking speed 'oops' will likely result in nothing more than a light scuff that can be polished out/tided up with a bit of t-cut rather than a crack, remember that panel is a piece of trim, the actual bumper is the steel RSJ that’s behind it. Only an utter moron would think that’s a bad thing (wavey Jeremy Clarkson).

Disagree sooooo much.

For the last 3 years I've been running and LS3 or an LS7 ( and both together for 12 months)
The average service cost per year has been £200 and to date have been bomb proof.

It's just a different approach to the same problem.
US take the large, unstrained and reliable approach while the Europeans and Far East take the highly tuned and and expensive to run view.

IMHO GM make far better engines. Ever driven something powered by an LS7? wink
I'd agree.

The E92 M3 engine is oh so advanced and impressive and new, yet it makes roughly the same power (bit less?) and far less torque than an LS3, all whilst needing 98 octane to do so, weighing more with a higher CofG and undoubtedly costing more...

Oh and it's even worse on fuel (although the interstellar 6th gear in the majority of LS3 powered cars may naturally have a greater influence on this...)

Either way, well done BMW...?

The large capacity argument evaporated when US cars started returning far better mpg than their techno-complicated European brethren. A track test of a C5 Z06 against a 350Z, NSX and 911 had the Corvette using the least fuel (it won the test too).

Ten years on and they are still moving the cars forward and get 10/10 for execution, power, value and running costs. Who can sell you a faster car for less?

The downside is it may tread on the toes of future TVRS, depending on the proposed direction they take, albeit lacking RHD.

Acquire a friend in the U.S.A.-go visit for 3 months at Christmas. Buy a Vette bring it in as a secondhand personal import the following year ie buy Dec 2013/ship February 2014 from the east coast for $1,000, pay import duty, obtain V5 and away you go. Maybe not as simple as that-Can anyone advise?
This car is outstanding value if you buy one in the U.S.A.

YOu have to be able to prove you lived in the US for the required period (residence, utility bills etc etc)otherwise it's 10% import duty and 20% VAT on top of everything. At current rates, you'd be better off buying in the UK as US cars carry no warranty outside of the US.

You do realise that this is the base 'entry level' model, I can see the ZR1 version being around 850HP(It will be supercharged though).

The 'inbetween' car will be the Z06, which will be around 550HP in my opinion

The next version up is almost certainly forced induction as there were photo's leaked with a boost gauge being displayed.

I think the next model will be wider, lighter, have carbon ceramic brakes, have a carbon roof and will probably put out 550-600bhp basically a predictable set of upgrades to make it more track focus'd

While i cant say the american muscle car market is coming of age....it allready has it seems now they are offering metal to not just rival europe and japan but beat it hands down in the areas that really matter. Looks, sound, and price. We could go on all day about them not being able to make the output. But who cars you cant really use strato figures and the american stuff will keep going for ever (i think). If i was in the market for a fast flash car i'm thinking id seriously look at a muscle car simple no nonsense reliable good macho looking and sound good. as others have said whats not to like.

I think it looks fantastic will sound it too and in the real world i think it would still go round corners and put a smile on your face in the proccess. Come on America keep up the good work.
