I wouldn’t worry too much.

At 132k mine handled and rode fine, yes it was probably worn but not enough to justify replacing parts which weren’t broken.

A couple of questions. I might go look at a car this weekend I just want to know opinion on pricing. Where would you value a 56 plate car with 70 something thousand on the clock with service history and a few months tax and test? Being sold privately.

Also is the cam chain or belt driven and what are the service intervals for this?

I'm sure there was something else I wanted to ask but I can't think what it was.

Chain driven and should last the life of the car.

Going to look at one tomorrow, anything special to look out for?

It's got a weep from the sump gasket but my old ST24 had the same problem for 3 years so don't expect it to be too much of a problem.

It's a 52 plate and miles are at 96k

'Sump leak' is probably the crank shaft seal (between the engine and gearbox). If so walk away or get a grand knocked off.

Its a box off job and clutch replaced if its contaminated. May aswel do the flywheel e.t.c. whist your at it. Not cheap!

I did think about that actually since my earlier post, going for a look anyway though as it's rather cheap.

Don't want something that's going to cost the earth so sort either though really so see what it looks like.

They leak from two places and the sump gasket is far more common than the crank seal. As the gasket shrinks with heat cycles the bolts holding the sump on lose a little tension and then it weeps.

Looked a bit more than just the sump gasket on that one.Lots of oil on the drive from where it had been sitting and the owner said he had to top it up regularly.Could smell it burning on the exhaust too so walked away from it.

At £1250 it's a cheap car but could turn expensive very quickly so I'm holding out for a better one.

Was privacy glass an option for all the back windows on these? Only because I have found a car that is perfect in every way except for an ST badge ( badges where they shouldnt be) on the grill and very dark tinted windows both of which are warning signs for me especially on a fast Ford.

Yep, privacy glass was an option - mine (05 plate) doesn't have it.

It"s with some sadness that I have to report my ST220 is no more.

The bonnet catch let go in the middle lane of the M1 and smashed back into the screen. Bloody scary. That aside, we got the car safely to the hard shoulder and we're here to tell the tale. Sadly, the insurance company have decided the car is a total loss due to the damage.

A sad end to a great car - they don't make cars like that any longer - it will be sorely missed.
