By and large I agree. But like most topics this is one of relativism. The media usually try to make issues binary.
So do you legislate that all women should wear a burka and all men be dressed like Victorian undertakers, or do you permit people to wear whatever they like, including nothing?
I think that most people know what is appropriate, the fact that this case is so unusual shows that almost everyone abides by conventional standards of dress in public. If you have to weigh this man's 'right' to walk around stark bSo do you legislate that all women should wear a burka and all men be dressed like Victorian undertakers, or do you permit people to wear whatever they like, including nothing?
k naked, with the general public's 'right' not to be exposed to the sight of his naked, middle aged body then I'd side with the general public.I'm not a prude, if he wants to walk around his own house naked then so be it, if he wants to sunbathe naked in his garden then I would say OK, if he wants to enjoy a bit of naked fun in a field or wood somewhere remote then, if he's discrete, who cares? Where he crosses the line imo is in having so little respect for other peoples views that he insists on going naked in public, where a substantial number of people will be offended/disgusted/disturbed by his actions. There are plenty of places where he can strip off with no repercussions, just not in public. I for one don't want to see it.

Probably this. It's not unknown for a homeless person to walk up to a copper and tup him, or smash something in a shop and wait for plod to arrive and henceforth give a bit of verbal to the beak in order to have a warm bed and 3 squares for the duration of the winter.
Not a bad option if you've got nowt although the PH mansion dwellers may or may not understand this.

I think you'll find all his time inside came about because he refused to do as the courts told him, not for being naked.
I don't see that courts should be telling anyone how to dress.mybrainhurts said:

I don't see that courts should be telling anyone how to dress.I don't agree with what this guy is doing but at the end of the day, he's no nonce, hes not a rapist and he's certainly not causing me any discomfort.
This man doesn't deserve jail at all when we let people off who offend "Decency" a whole lot worse.

They don't tell thieves or drug addicts to stop thieving and taking drugs though. We've all seen the silly wail stories where the judge congratulates the thief or sides with the drug addict.

Of course courts tell people to stop using drugs and stealing. What on earth due you think DTTO's are all about? Every suspended sentence or probation handed down is telling people how to behave, with consequences if you do not.I don't agree with what this guy is doing but at the end of the day, he's no nonce, hes not a rapist and he's certainly not causing me any discomfort.

I agree with the principle that he should be punished for wilfully ignoring the court. In that sense, the initial offence is irrelevant. However I find it a strange principle that we should punish people purely for being naked in public in the first place.
Who and what are we protecting?
Have to say I got a shock last night when they briefly mentioned a national ban on men going topless in public on the One Show last night.
Now personally I never do, and usually I think blokes that do look like arses, plus shops that have banned it for whatever reason are perfectly entitled as far as I'm concerned as it's their premises and they can set their own rules, but a national ban?? Really??

Exactly my thoughts. If this man wants to walk around with nothing on let him. Not necessarily what everyone wants to see but some people don't exactly look like oil paintings with their clothes on. If a shop doesn't let him in naked then that is their choice and I imagine he has clothes on him for this reason. Now personally I never do, and usually I think blokes that do look like arses, plus shops that have banned it for whatever reason are perfectly entitled as far as I'm concerned as it's their premises and they can set their own rules, but a national ban?? Last weekend Bristol held a naked bike ride through the streets and Brighton has quite a large one each year, don't know if there were any protests.
There was a program of naturism on TV a year or so back (much piss was taken on PH) but I thought it was interesting - there was once scene where a topless woman was told to cover up but the topless man was allowed to go on his way
I did ultimatley think that it is weird that humans feel so weird about being naked and people should be free to do it - it is of course a very basic thing.
But ultimatley something in my head just says no to this guy. I support the idea in theory but something in my head just tells me i dont want to interact with naked strangers in day to day life.

Seems like he's going to be having a few more helpings of porridge.

And yet, in the accompanying photo, he's not naked. He's wearing a hat, and something around his neck, plus - possibly - footwear, so what's his point?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-237...
