On Sony PS+ you can only use the free content if you continue to be a PS+ member. With the Xbox, you purchase the content and it's yours to keep forever, even if you're no longer gold.
Not strictly true. That only applies to free games downloaded using PS Plus. If you purchased the content using a PS Plus discount, you keep that forever, even if you're no longer a member.

With PSN content, you're also locked down to two consoles. What happens if two of them break? You lose everything, all of it unless you somehow managed to deactivate your account on a console.
Not true. If your console(s) break, you can deactivate your accounts yourself easily, without needing to access the console. All you need is an internet browser. The reason they limit it to 2 active accounts is to prevent people sharing their login information with friends, allowing them to download DLC etc for free.

Sony are feeding you rubbish lies
It appears that you're the one doing this, not Sony.

I can't decide. I might wait a little while and see what else is announced and confirmed etc.

Does anything else think that the graphics don't look that big a leap?

I know that each generation has become less of a leap since the 8 bit days and like anything the improvements get smaller and smaller, but everyone is going on about the graphics. I can see the detail is better in the background models/detail and the frame rates are improved, but people are getting into the hype and I think a few may be disappointed.

After watching the BF4 multiplayer, playing BF3 on my 360 it seemed blocky!

These graphics are pretty impressive too.

I never understand why people say the Xbox is a good media centre? It lacks the basic features like sequential playback. We have both here and both of us prefer the PS3 for gaming and media players.

I preordered the PS4 back in feb or march (whenever ShopTo first started accepting). Looking forward to getting it so we can move the PS3 to the bedroom for media and chuck the Xbox.

The big downside i see coming is that the PS4 given it's price, will inherit the annoying little kids that previously festered the xbox network. I really hope MS release another £99 xbox for the kiddies to buy and leave the PS4 alone....

That's exactly why I have 2 PS3's. Had a fatty 40gb version and acquired a slim 250gb version. Slim is now the games machine, swapped the 40gb drive in fatty for a 500gb drive and bought PlayTV for it. Moved it to the bedroom as a media machine, recording live digital TV, playing films of various formats and when I had LoveFilm it even did that.

If i have read the press correctly it will be xbox for me. I have two kids so will buy two xbox's. load my account and the two kids accounts on both xbox's. then if we buy one disc the game can be played on both xbox's at the same time. Will avoid the current rows of who is using what disk.

See, this is what no-one understands. You don't have to use Kinect. If you want to navigate menus using the controller alone, you can. It's an option, not a must-use-every-single-time.
Isn't that like buying a car and only using odd number gears, they are there but you don't have to use them.

However, the system is designed and generally works easier if you use all the features.

With three of us in the house that use one of two xbox this is a good solution. Whenever a new game is bought there is constant arguments over who is playing which disk. This will keep the peace if its true. Not fussed on trade in and just hope it will work with kinect stuffed on the floor behind the cabinet.

PS4 for me this time round

I've previously has the PS1, PS2 and most recently a 360 but I think the Playstation wins this round. Main selling points are price and the fact they haven't placed any restrictions on the resale of disks etc. I can't see the Xbox One been as popular as the 360 was.

PS4

I've ALWAYS had both top consoles of each generation.

Saying that, this time around I can't see my bothering with the Xbox 1, MS have shot themselves in the foot big time.

Depending on the games that come along a PS4 will be bought before Christmas.

Microsoft really messed up with the new xbox. What happened to consumer rights and freedom of choice?

I have had a xbox360 since day one and always looked down on the PS3.

I will probably go for playstation this time around. Metal gear solid beckons no doubt!

Quite - this is why I drive my car with the aircon on full and the heated seats on max. It's about consumer choice and (in a similar way to the manual versus paddle shift) there will be dinosaurs who only like the old way, people in the middle ground and people who love the new way. At least there is a choice, though it's not beyond a manufacturer to make one variation a little clunkier than it could be so as to encourage you to use their newer, preferred methods...

On the point of choice, it seems Microsoft have had a ponder on how their bottom line might look when the PS4 undercuts the XBox and doesn't apply a variety of restrictions: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22980973

Consider this - we're adults, but how many of these things are bought for and owned by kids, who want to swap games with their mates, set it up where-ever. If Mum and Dad won't pay for/don't want a permanent connection and to fund the costs of lending and sharing, which console is little Jimmy likely to get for his birthday?

Oh, and PS4 I think. I have had Forza for a while, but I think I prefer the gameplay of GT. Plus my old XBox360 sounds like it's going to take off. It should have been designed better, so I'm eyeing Sony again as the smarter techs.

The next fanboy rage will be that you can't play without the disc or lend it to a friend.

From what I can see MS have pitched this one pretty perfectly now. The restrictions they initially wanted to impose will remain on the digitally downloaded games, whereas the physical disc copies will be much as before. It will be interesting to see what the uptake is like if the digital option ends up cheaper, a la Steam.
