You lick the noise of a turbo? What?

Anyway wink I assume your misspelling was meant to say "like", in which case you may be disappointed with many turbo'd cars these days, many don't sound like turbo'd cars of yesteryear.

The only car I can think of that would suit your needs is a Subaru Impreza or Mitsubishi Evo.

Quite surprised, given how most of PH hypes these up beyond belief, GT86 beater, etc etc. So much so that I too was considering one in the future at some point.

I always felt it would be the same for the 130i as well, another hyped up car; Kind of like an old 135i without the turbos - even more boring?
I find it hard to believe

I've driven my mates 120d M sport and yes its a diesel eurobox but its still 'fun' in a sense

I cant see a 300bhp 3.0 twin turbo vesrion being dull.

I guess it depends how high your standards are, RE what you've driven previous

Every owner I've talked to has confirmed how good toys they are, don't seem to handle as well as my E46 did though, perhaps it was the runflats

Look, 300bhp mate, everyone knows you're a tool, I don't have to prove it. I've seen other posters comment on it, and your name was mentioned multiple times in a thread about "which posters are the most annoying" or something to that effect, no smoke without fire?

I genuinely don't give a st about that other thread, I just found it laughable how I contributed once, then about 6 of you jumped all over me. Almost the equivalent of "electronic school bullies". hehe

I didn't even see the picture you posted, I can't reply to something I don't know was there. Why didn't I see it? Because after it became obvious it was a "lets flame TRD thread" I simply ignored it. I have no desire to be flamed, I come on here for discussion, not to defend myself from people like yourselves.

Yeah it seems odd to me given how good the reviews all are, but then in a way the E36 328 is held in very high esteem here, but I got bored with mine, even though it is clearly a good car objectively.

135i msport might be quick.
But it's damned boring to drive.

I bought it one, owned it for 6 months, then sold it.
Damned expensive lesson.

It was like a twin turbo office desk.
Interesting but ultimately dull.

Hard to say.
Part of the problem was you had to be pushing 100mph to get any sensation of speed.
All the computers in the suspension meant the windy roads were as boring as a motorway.
You could switch off some of the computers - but you had to do it every time you started the car.
The tiptronic gearbox was excellent - but boringly efficient.
Even with flappy paddles engaged there was no sense of fun - there was so much power it didn't really care what gear you were in within reason.

It just had no flair.
It was like a twin turbo office desk.
Which is fine for a commute.

But if you want to have fun then you want a twin turbo hot tub, or supercharged nerf gun.
If you want elegance then you want a v8 chesterfield.
If you want prestige then it should be a v12 tailored suit.

But the 135i was an office desk with a big computer on it.
Very efficient
Very good at was it was supposed to do.
But boring as hell.

Entertaining post, I see where you're coming from though. Too refined. Too efficient. Too easy. You actually sounded like you described my mates old V6 DSG TT that I drove, although obviously without some of the outright pace.

Dull.......eek

You must have a monumentally high threshold of dullness then.

I've had my 135 for 2 years, and dull would be the last word I'd use to describe it.

Edit: I've just seen you bought the automatic version.

That's why I waited a bit longer for the DCT version to come out.....much better gearbox.

Mine is my only car, so has to do the commute stuff, plus the odd track day smile so I find it is best of both worlds for me, fun enough when I want it to be, and excellent enough when I want to just drive it A to B.
Perfect car really.

If a modern car is making a loud turbo sound it is probably due to a fked re-circ valve and just actually turbo stall you are hearing...

Personally I would take n/a any day as it's a much nicer power delivery and this is coming from the owner of a turbo'd car!

Nice spec 135 up on PH classifieds here, but a little bit over OP's budget (which is what I said would need to be done to get a high spec decent car as they are holding value very well currently)

Correct me if I'm wrong.
But isn't dct still flappy paddles.

My previous car was an s2000 and a week end and a fair weather toy.
The 135 was supposed to replace the s2000 and be better.
But BMW had taken away everything from the BMW that made the s2000 fun.

I guess it depends what you want in a car.

I learned that want want in a fun car is a manual gearboxes and minimal computer aids.

Yes, DCT is flappy paddles, but soooooo much better in operation than the slushbox Steptronic.
DCT is mega on a track as well smile
Plus I live in London, and a manual is the last thing I want for a daily driver these days.

'Fun' cars are all well and good but can be tiresome as everyday drivers, but I guess that could be because, I did the 'fun' car daily driver thing in my 20's, but want something that's fun as well as civilised now that I'm in my 50's.

If I had space for a fun weekend 2nd car, as well as a daily driver 'barge' I wouldn't have bought the 135.

Charger rather than turbo acceptable ?

Xkr maybe?

Probably be a bit older than you want but plenty of low mileage examples with all the right maintenance done on them...

May even get a tidy convertible... And you'll likely have all the toys you can shake a stick at!

This is the 2nd direct insult you've fired my way in a single day. Why? I haven't insulted you, not even close. If you have issues, fine. But maybe the fact that "6 other people" in a single thread disagreed with you, might highlight something other than you jumping to conclusion, arm waving and general name calling.

With regards to the gearboxes, I don't recall what was in mine. But I couldn't fault it. It was just boring.
It was like BMW had automated everything that made driving fun.

I wanted a spitfire, but they had made a Lear jet with autopilot.

Anyhow, I'm going to leave it there.
I think I've made my point.

But, I do wonder how many other modern 'sports' cars would have the same problems for me?
and I wonder how many other drivers find themselves agreeing with me.

I would think given your issues with a 135, I'd say you would have the same issue with many other 'sports' cars made today....sadly that's modern cars for you, or rather what manufacturers 'think' they need to build.
I actually wouldn't call a 135 a 'sports' car to be honest, it's too compromised for that......the 1M on the other hand is a lot more focused, perhaps you should try one of those biggrin

i would get the ST or 335i, the 1 series look ste.

I was looking at astra vxr's, type r's when i bought my ST3. The problem i found was the ST was the best car for me but the VXR had more kit like cruise control and AFL (headlights that turn to face the way your steering).

I also prefer turbo charged cars, na's just take too long to get going.

To me, the 1m is still just another boring BMW with a big engine.

I actually went for something totally different.
I bought a 10 year old Jeep wrangler with a 4l straight six engine and put the rest of the money into some building work on the house.
