I'll accept the 'old' bit, but 'poor' and 'nut' are a bit strong wink

Thanks for all the advice chaps,

Er, back to the original question.

Probably;

Tubular front wishbones,
Updated springs, 20-30% firmer,
Poly bushes
Good dampers, Nitrons or Monos, (without going to silly priced specialist items),
Extra 0.5 degree camber.
Neutral toe in,
Correct ride height and geo,
Wider wheels,
R1Rs
Power steering,
Better drop links, Leven or similar adjustable items,
Polybush anti roll bar

Mine runs all that apart from the wishbones that are on the shopping list!

That's near enough what I run but with R888 tyres. There is still too much body roll for my liking though so my next mod will probably be a stiffer front ARB. If you wanted to go any further then you'd need to restrict chassis flex by bracing behind the engine and then improving triangulation at the front to again improve torsional rigidity.

i'm in the same place.
went out for a drive this weekend, someone in a new TT and someone else in an old 911. I was way faster on straight but too scared in the corners. Mine handles terrible. I've got new drop links, full polybush kit to install this weekend then I think Nitrons from all the glowing reviews. I've put the engine mods on hold until the handling is sorted out. Going fast in a straight line is only fun for so long...

Its all subjective, I have just read about Noble handling and yet I went round Bruntingthorpe in a Noble on "uprated suspension" and it was a piece of c**p, our first try with our mono's was awesome on track but a bit harsh on the road, see where this is going?
Yep, compromise
Gaz gold pro are generally ok for fast road in all conditions but Gaz Mono's are faster and better (unless you are silicon kid lol)

Rear:

Camber: 3/4-1* negative
Toe: 10min pr wheel in, 20 total

Foran:

Camber 1/2-3/4* negative
Toe: 5min pr wheel in, 10 total

This is what Racing Green set mine up with when I requested "fast road". This was after they installed the AST fully adjustable suspension(comparable to nitron) and the car was lowered between 10 and 20 mm. Tires are 225/45r16 and 245/40r17 and car handles superbly and predictable on hard cornering. Im adding leven droplinks now to further enhance it smile

Thanks for admitting they were to harsh ,I had no complaints on smooth surfaces and they were bloody great around corners ,just think the 500lb springs were just to stiff.

If the spring rates were lower the shock absorbers would still be on my car.

All you need is a fast car to go with the fast road setup laugh

Maybe I'm not driving hard enough but I think my Chim is pretty spot on as it is on standard set up. I've had a few of the so called handling great (968CS, RX8, M5) and TBH I find the Chim very predictable and great fun. I won't ever track it but for road use I don't have any complaints.

I don;t think it's been mentioned yet but do have a play with tyre pressures, it makes a lot of difference and there may be a pressure that suits you better.

I can't remember how mine was when it was standard, nothing to write home about though.

In the last 6 months I have driven a standard griff and a chim and there is a big difference in their back road capabilities compared to mine and there should be!

Great thread, hi Chilli, yep all the usual bits sorted but its all about the shocks to me, It's such an important area that when I do mine again it'll be the best or nothing.
Hi Phazed,
Oli's set up sounds nice, the toe in and out/ camber set up is key. I'd love to play with the settings at a track, the rear toe I'd like to take out a touch! Same with the front, probably wrong but I feel like it would give less under steer and oversteer, same with a bit more negative camber, work more of the tyre in the bends. Brakes would be crap but they are anyway!

Derek.

Are you saying that only 15 sets of Monos have been sold?

I have a set of pre-production Monos and have been very pleased with them.

They are a class above my old Pro-techs for track use and never fade, (as in their damping ability).

Not knocking Pro-Techs, they are fine for the road but not designed for track use.

I shall be sending them back for a service in the winter as they will be about 4 years old then.
