Do you do it yourself? Reads like you home service to me - a service history book that's not stamped up with (ideally main dealer) stamps kills the value of 3 year old vehicles.

Yes I service it myself. I got sick of the dealer not changing the filters on my last car. (I'm a marine engineer, and usually service 32ltr V16 engines)
I used to mark the filters, that's how I know they didn't change them.
I use top quality oil, and genuine filters from the dealer.
But they never looked at the book (Which I fill in) when they valued it.
Anyway, it would also be naive to think they wouldn't stamp it. redface

Cars here are expensive compared to U.K. They are also trashed after 2 years. I must have one of the few straight cars on the Island.

I agree, the milage is quite high for an Island car, but it's not big milage is it?
Palma is 80km from where I live, so a couple of trips down there for parts etc. a week, soon puts some km on.

No it's not. It's worth 3 or 4 times what I paid for mine (and this is one of the more expensive cars I've had).

It's just worth less than you'd sorta kinda hoped. I think this happens to all of us wink

If you really think it's totally worthless, I'll come over on a ferry and take it off your hands for you! spin

You're on a small island, in an economic crisis, with the construction sector on its knees, selling a bog standard pick-up. Time to manage your expectations.
I'd have thought cars on the islands would be dear. Friend who lives in Tenerife is always moaning about car prices, although that's a bit further out, I suppose.

Also used cars are dearer pretty well everywhere else - the UK has very low used car prices.

ETA: Again for an island dwelling car, the mileage does seem quite high.

Small island = limited number of trade buyers, so no need to offer a high trade-in because the seller has few other places to go. Plus all the Spanish are probably holding their breath to see where the economy goes. If they have a good summer in Mallorca, might be worth trying again then. Until then, I'd expect them to keep their powder dry - a Euro crisis may be looming.

That's the problem I think, they know I have few places to go.
If you go onto some of the websites, and there are offers, then go into the dealer, they'll tell you that only applies to the mainland, and the Balearics are excluded.
I know of a Guy who decided to buy a Peguot 307 estate car I think it was. He'd looked around, and decided the car he wanted was around 21K.
He went into the dealer, and was quoted over 24k. When he pointed out the price that was advertised, the dealer said just that. It didn't apply, as there was the transport from the mainland.
He went and bought one from Barcelona for 21k and brought it back for the 3 or 400 euro the ferry cost.
I know from an aquintance that the dealers get the cars over on the ferries for 60 euro a pop. As they save them up untill they have 10-15 cars to come over at once.
The Navara I have now was in stock in Menorca when I ordered it. It took 6 weeks to get it!
I think mainly the Islanders are greedy buggers. A lot of people here have put their prices up, becuase they're making less money. confused
Is it me, or is that unbelievable?
Ah well, back to living the dream. cool

My friend bought a brand new top spec '10' plate Rodeo recently.

He has been thinking about changing it for something else a bit more car like.

He paid £25k about 4 months ago, he has just been offered £18k to trade it in.

Pick ups arent worth anything used.

Heard a lot about the ludicrous tenerife prices, heard some crazy figures for rubbish cars branded about!

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Quite.

Truck still going strong smile Did the 180,000km oil and filters change last week. It´s probably worth a pound now, if I were to take it back to the stealer.

My deck hand paid 1,200€ for a MK3 golf last month. The door seals and badges have been sprayed over, and every alloy wheel has been kerbed, just to give an idea of the type of car your money buys over here.

keep it going.

Vehicles... especially body on frame trucks can last a very long time if well looked after.

Just think how much money you would have lost if you bought another truck 80k ago.

In general, a car will devalue by three fifths every three years.

A 50k car will be worth 20k.
A 25k car will be worth 10k.
