Around the house I have a pair of Onitsuka Tigers, Nike high tops and some ethnic, pro yoghurt, carbon offsetted anti capitalist blue and white things that were shipped over on a boat so they didnt pollute using jetfuel and cost £50 to hurt my feet.

They're comfortable and great for driving. Not everyone likes the design, but each to their own.
Aside from trainers / shoes specifically meant for driving I find Converse ideal. Most trainers have a massive sole which reduces feel and takes up space.
Only problem I've had with Converse was when I owned an S2000, the legs out driving position meant I was more on the back of my heel so got sore on long journeys so I bought a pair of Puma's which solved the problem.

Now I either wear Pumas or Converse for driving all the time.

Were these in the decent colours like white or ecru or crazy bright pastel oranges/reds/yellows etc? Ever since they've got popular I haven't been able to find solid white or ecru ones for less than £30 and I considered that a bargain when I found those!
I suppose they weren't the mainstream colours but I don't really mind, they aren't obscene! Red/black, blue/black, beigey canvas, camo and one I can't remember. I don't treat my shoes very well (dog walking, working on my cars, bmxing) so no point spending out really nice ones!

I like converse but to be honest I often go to sports direct solely (punny) because they sell Dunlop or lee cooper converse replicas.

They are identical and quite thick soles, all for £11 a set in lots of colours.

wearing a pair now
Totally agree. Bit of a no brainer really, practically identical, could even be made in the same factory if the truth be known !!!!

£37 Converse

£11 Dunlop

^ Seconded.

Absolutly hate the things. Makes anyone with a UK Size 4 or larger look like a pair of walking golf clubs.

As someone has said, they go well with jeans/casual trousers or shorts, classless and they are also excellent for driving in. Can't fault them.

They are utterly hateful things.

The alternative is a pair of trainers, not an over priced smelly plimsoll.
Smelly?
That's at the owners discretion.
Well, back before I got all Victorian dad and banned them my son had some. When him and his chums took them off we used to get visits from UN weapons inspectors!

I've been wondering about buying the cheaper copy versions. Does anyone own them? Don't need it for going out in, purely for gym use (lifting weights) as the converse that I normally use is starting to show signs of wear.

Converse are one of very few products of which I won't buy copycats. They're good-looking, lightweight and very comfortable and the only flaw I can find is that once you've been wearing them for a long time, the heels start to squeak, but that's also happened with cheaper ones I've owned.
Agree. I'm not ashamed to admit I have about ten pairs. Don't know how anyone would find them uncomfortable!

I've got loads. Bought loads when Sport and Soccer used to do them and am only just getting through the last ones. Got a few mad colours I've picked up in the sales over the years as well. I wouldn't pay full price for a pair though as they're a £20/£30 trainer to me.

Other than that it's various Nikes. Air Force 1s, Vandals, Blazers etc etc.

I remember being able to get white or black low cuts for £15 from Lillywhites a few years ago.

My "smart" trainers are all Adidas originals, London, Hamburg, Dublin and Gazelle all look great with jeans!

I don't think they're that comfortable if I'm being honest. I got them to look less of a rude boy when on a smei night out. As said before they tend to go with everything. I prefer Nike truth be told but Nike do very few casual trainers you can wear in all occassions. This is where Converse and Vans excel in my opinion.
