I think it's "community service". An opportunity to make himself useful for once.

Mind you, if it's just the accent they've brought him in for, Rory Bremner would have been a better choice.

TBF, he is the one Scottish political heavyweight with the credentials to turn this around. Despite his many faults he is a political bruiser who appears to be making mincemeat of Slippery Salmond's arguments and has even accused Salmond of "peddling lies". No-one else in the No camp has been that direct, I think.

Brown couldn't make mincemeat out of Chataeubriand.

The only think heavyweight about him is his thick skull and his clunking fist.

i find his speach quite motivating and passionate.

Just a shame he was a wet squib when in power.

Probably think this will cover his past as he beats his way to the upper house.

Have just listened to his eve of referendum speech today, though not a supporter of the Labour party I think if he had been that eloquent and forceful when PM he might still be in power.

it would be interesting to know if it all was one big stunt by labour of a speech from the heart.

i think knowing the spin, probably a big stunt.

He's stepping down as an MP at the next election.

cut and paste "relatively infrequent visitor to Westminster" since the 2010 general election.

= paid by the tax payer for doing fook all, but in this case maybe money well spent, best option would be to pay 90% of the looney party to stay at home

Gordon Brown may look like an idiot and sound like an idiot, but don't let that fool you - he really is an idiot.

His recent speech during the Scottish referendum campaign was the defining moment. A good demonstration of his abilities . I haven't seen a more passionate speech for some time.
Maybe he was a bit awkward at times, but he is no mug. He has a most brilliant mind, at the top during his time at University.
I'm far from being a labourite but he made a nice change from the highly polished game show host lookalikes,,

That's sarcasm, right? He couldn't tie his own shoelaces...

And name me one "highly polished" Labour leader except for the war criminal one?

Guess time.

Who do you think said this today, the Labour leader, Labour backbencher, The Mirror, Dennis Skinner... ?

'Gordon has given a huge amount in terms of public service and his contribution in government and in Parliament.
I'm sure he will go on contributing to public life after he leaves the Commons.'
