I thought it was the best Hootenanny for yrs. Good solid performances from the guests, sometimes he has a right dodgy bunch on.

Really enjoyed it, I just wish he'd do some gigs with Sam Brown again.

I enjoyed it preferred last years as Dexys were on. Don't like Joss Stone but a great voice enjoyed Paulo Nutini also he doesn't sound like he's drunk when he's singing anymore.

Wish they would lose the tts dressed up clocks, old Father Time etc.

Enjoyed Paloma's Tina Turner cover, including the dancing too, good fun.

She's a force of energy - great performer.

I'm a big fan of Boz too, not to everyone's tastes, but I rate him.

I watched it last night and thought the whole thing simply astounding. Jos Stone seems to have finally come of age.

Strange how we all view things differently, isn't it?

I've quoted that a few times as to how bad Hootenany was this year and I quite like some of her stuff! smile

Assuming you are not given to hyperbole can I ask what you found quite so astonishing? I am guessing it was something more than just that fact that professional singers can sing. confused

Hayseed Dixie - extras from Deliverance?
I seem to remember that the dad of two of the original band members (the Reno brothers) was the author of Dueling Banjos. It was started as a spoof tribute band by "proper" musicians. Some of their tracks are (in my ears anyway) better than the originals. e.g.:

yes
They're well worth catching live if you get the chance. Funny as all hell and really good musicians to boot smile
The name's a play on "AC/DC" as their first album was all covers of that band...

Basically, it is simply because I think music on TV is generally pretty crappy. So it is an easy race to win.

IMHO, Joules' normal show is easily the best but I thought every act on the Houtenany was pretty exceptional. I thought Hayseed Dixies brought good humour while also being exceptionally talented musicians. The house band and session singers added enormous value to all the tracks they were involved in.

Jools' house band consists of many members of his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra which are, of course, excellent and can do little wrong as far as I'm concerned. I switched between the Hootenanny, Queen and the fireworks and back so didn't see all of the performances but generally to my ears, Joss Stone tried too hard and Ellie Goodling was poor. Paloma Faith is always amusing but not exactly musically brilliant. Ed Sheeran was his usual self and while a big fan of his 35-40 years ago, Boz Scaggs is past it (as is Ronnie Spector - awful). Best were probably Paolo Nutini and Hayseed Dixi but that was about it from my perspective.

Joss Stone was as good as ever but Ruby Turner.... how have I missed her.... what a voice, spent most of the show waiting for her to sing again.

Less said about that Paloma thing and Hayseed Dixie the better

I didn't really know much about Boz Scaggs but I think he was really, really cool. Loved his laid back style and it sounded good to me.

enjoyed it, thought it was a little lower-key than previous shows.

Enjoyed Joss, Paloma, missed Rrrrrrrrrrrruby Turner.

They really need someone like Vintage Trouble on there again, would have nailed it!

Have certainly gone overboard with the lighting this year - looks kind of OK though.
