As an aside just before I unsubscribe, for those that are interested http://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep - with the proviso on the side:
"NoSleep is a community for original horror stories. Stories may be true or not (but they are usually not).
Think of this subreddit in the way you think of a movie theater. Nobody goes to see a horror movie and then stands up to yell at the screen when a small detail isn't 100% true in real life. You don't get angry and boycott the Wizard of Oz because "everyone knows monkeys can't fly!"
The stories are here to entertain you. Picking them apart, debunking them, and just generally being a bad sport ruins the fun for everyone. This is why we have this rule - to keep the comment sections of the stories from becoming a huge nest of insults. Just enjoy the stories for what they are - stories."
Have fun!

Some people still believe the Earth is flat. Do you have an open mind about this, that maybe there's a possibility they are right. Because if not, they would call you closed minded.
There are literally millions of people who believe the Earth is at the centre of our solar system and that the sun and the other planets revolve around us. Because that's what the bible infers. Apparently all evidence to the contrary is a trick played by god to test our faith. How open minded are you about that possibility?
There's nothing in the Bible that supports this. It was Nicolaus Copernicus that postulated the theory that the Earth was at the centre of the Universe sometime in the 1500'sThere are literally millions of people who believe the Earth is at the centre of our solar system and that the sun and the other planets revolve around us. Without dragging the Bible into this it actually says in
Isaiah 40:22 that,
'There is One who dwells above the circle of the earth'
Yuri Gagarin proved that the Earth was round on 12 April 1961 when he made the first Manned Orbit but how did Isaiah know this in 740 BC ?
Either he had a spacecraft or there might just be something in this inspired stuff.
Look on any Geocentrist fruitcake website and you will see how god has fooled us all into believing the Earth is not at the centre, and only the true believers realise that this is a test from god to see how strong our faith is.
Nobody can disprove this, because logic and reason cannot disprove supernatural guff because the supernatural mob can just say "it's god/magic".
The only thing logic and reason can state is that the Geocentrists have no evidence. There is no, and never has been, any evidence for any supernatural event. Never, ever.

I'll stick with Isaiah 40:22 though 'sitteth' may need modernising.
As many posts above, there is something we don't understand and only a some can experience. Those that experience it are often unassuming and don't want the spotlight on them and they just accept it. There are a great many people like this, just getting on with knowing they can see or hear something occasionally. It can't be analysed, disseminated, or made to happen on order but just does.
I think the whole ghost idea is just not talked about daily for these reasons but in times past it may have been more accepted as routine, before science knowledge expanded and demanded concrete answers that couldn't be given.
We haven't got to the extent of human knowledge and most people on here are 'outsiders' without the ability but it's wrong to close ears on those whose experiences show different.

Strange coincidence about six months ago.
I had about 6 surveys to do in and around Swansea, and two were in the name of Davies.
I went to the first Mr Davies' house and met his wife who showed me around, there was a load of rugby paraphenalia on the walls, old Llanelli shirts and things like that, and I was just ideally wondering if the chap was Nigel Davies (local chap- reasonably famous - was Gloucester coach recently), don't know what made me think of him but there you go.
About 4 hours later, I went to my other Mr Davies, and who should open the door but the chap from above.
cool starry bar etc etc

And I don't think this supernatural stuff is harmless. 25% of Brits believe in their horoscope. 60% of Americans believe in angels and 45% of Americans believe in creationism over evolution. That's what happens when nonsense isn't challenged.
But so what if they do? Surely, in a free world, we're all entitled to believe in whatever we want. You don't choose to, which is fine.
I believe there may be things out there which are supernatural and which we can't explain and that's fine too.
On topic though I asked my mum about this and she recounted a story to me about the my family home which I never knew. It's an old house (1850's) and many people have lived and died in it over the years, all of which are family. My Great Grandad was partial to smoking a pipe in a certain room of the house. On occasion, my mother and my sister (who did not know about him liking a pipe) have both walked into this room and both smelt a strong pipe smell. Nobody else smokes in the house.
I appreciate that this may be explained by other things but i'd like to think my great grandad is still there in some way watching over the family.
I don't know if I ever told you about the day I forgot my legs. I can't remember which day it was: it was one of those ones that happened in 1987, I can't remember which exactly, there were so many. In particular there were quite a lot of Tuesdays then, I remember, so I've a feeling it might have been one of those. Anyway, I was on my way into work with Sir Peter Thorneycroft, no relation, one fresh June morning in early May and we took the short cut across the fields. I stooped to pick a buttercup, why people leave buttocks lying around, I've no idea. The gentlest breeze and mildest Camemberts were packed in our hamper and all nature seemed to be holding its breath. We made good time by taking a back way across what was then the main Corpusty to Saxmundham Road. I was just remarking to Peter how still and peaceful everything was when he suddenly agreed with me and said how he thought everything was still and peaceful too. You know how if you half-close your eyes you can't see so well? I'd just discovered that it was equally true if you half-opened them. I was pointing this out when I suddenly noticed that I'd completely forgotten my legs. We had to go back and get them. The moment was spoiled and three years later almost to the decade, Margaret Thatcher was hounded from office. I sometimes muse on what might have happened if I had forgotten my ears as well. Never go back, ladies and gentlemen. Never go back.

Tonsko, what was that about not having to state stuff because it was obvious. The above post is a prime example of the kind of ill thought out woo that needs to be challenged at every opportunity. If only to prevent others from being taken in. Love this thread (I am still on page 3). This is nothing spooky, just a wee coincidence. A few days ago I bumped into my ex in town. We are both 45 and went out together for four years when we were 20-24. We then didn't see each other for 20 years. Two years ago she moved back home after living in Ireland and we met through Facebook. We have no feelings for each other and are just Facebook friends. However, a few days ago when I bumped into her I offered her a lift home as I was going that way. I always have CDs playing in the car but that day the CD player decided to break down. I turned the radio on instead and said 'Remember, this is the radio so I am not responsible for what comes on'. I said this as she always criticised my taste in music. However, the first song that came on was our song - 'Sweet Child of Mine' by Guns and Roses. Neither of us had heard this song in years and I actually stopped the car and we looked at each other in shock. I said 'Do you remember that' and she said 'Yea that was our song'. We both thought it was eerie. But no, we are not getting back together!!

I guess there are those who like to believe stuff that's nice, and makes them feel good, and those who like to know the truth, whether it's nice or not and whether it makes us feel good or sad.I'm one of the latter.

Not really told many people about this before, but i used to be engaged to my ex and we lived together. After about a year we got a new neighbour called Joseph (or Joe). He had a peculiar accent but always avoided the question when i asked where he was from. We grew fairly close but i always suspected something going on with him and my ex. One day my ex admitted it, i was furious so ended things. I went round to his house and punched him in the face, he laughed and slammed the door. The next day i saw him moving out and he had some cotton wool over his eye, i was glad i hurt him. Anyway, in summary if it hadnt been for cotton eye Joe id have been married a long time ago, where did you come from where did you go? where did you come from cotton eye joe?
An amusing variation of a good bel air. I knew where it was heading and like a runaway train it was unstoppable but it still made me chuckle.Justayellowbadge said:

That is one of the two sketches I remember from the show. The other is the "sloblocks" one.not a spooky story, but one of good luck.
I used to do a cycling commute which took me around the sides of two massive victorian reservoirs. quite remote, stone laid paths on the edges and very heavily wooded: think of by now 100 year old plus trees lined the banks.
one winters night, pitch black I'm pedalling along and I hear an almighty bang/crack, feel the rush of wind behind me (but thank god I carried on pedalling full tilt) and one of these trees had collapsed: the banking/path it sat on has eroded with the rain I guess, under mining it and the entire 100' tree fell over in one go, clean across the path, behind me.
it destroyed the bank, path, had a gigantic root ball up in the air- canopy of the tree down in the water.
I guess 0.5 second, 1 second somewhere slower on my commute home from work, I'd have been under it and the chances of someone coming along to find me, would have been slim to nil, until maybe a dog walker the next day/morning.

I'm sorry that this situation is going on, but have to admit to being grimly fascinated by your posts KH. I can imagine your frustration in hearing all this but not able to bring some sense of reality to events.

As for the rest of the thread, there are two distinct lines that I can see:
1 - amusing/entertaining stories.
2 - complete crap riding on the back of the above and statements that are patently lies about people having psychic powers that you only see if you're a little bit magic too.
The latter do need calling out as they are at best deluded and at worst deliberately manipulative.

I have one. When my great-grandfather (on my Dad's side died) the clock he had owned (in fact a grandfather clock) for over 70 years stopped that day and no one could get it restarted.
This has passed in to family lore now.
I know it couldn't be restarted as I watched my granddad try, my dad try and I had a go as well (I was about twelve).
Spooky eh?
No, not really. It stopped because he used to wind it every day, he wasn't there to wind it; having died. My Nan did try a bit of the 'it stopped when he died' but actually there was no evidence of this.
It had quite a loud tick but no one was concentrating on this as they were more concerned with ambulances and the like. The only definite fact is that by the time anyone checked or noticed - it had stopped. It had stopped because it needed to be wound every few days and had run down.
So, why could we not get it back and running? Speaking to a watch-smith it was because various parts had worn down having been repeatedly wound over 70 years. My great-grandad had clearly developed a knack for winding it that we did not have - like with some door locks where you have to pull the key out a bit or twist the wrong way initially. Renewing a few parts would have easily had it back up and running.
We had my Nan with 'it stopped at the time he died' and an aunt then telling people 'it stopped and could never be run again' - complete rubbish but these are not bad people they just wanted to attribute something to his passing.
I've heard the tale repeated a few times since and you can see how these things get exaggerated and passed on down the pub. Plenty of gullible people on here, it seems, who would just take the story at face value.
Lovely old chap by the way - came down from Yorkshire to do open cast mining in the Forest of Dean. Fond memories of him!
