I'm a life long Alpinestars boots fan for fast road and occasional track use, but I seem to be doing an epic tour a year at the moment. This usually means rain and I'm sick of wet feet or dodgy overboot solutions for non-waterproof boots.

What are the forum masses' recommendations for waterproof boots for sports bike riding?

Ideally I don't want to spend much more than £200 and they must still give good feel/movement along with being cool enough for hot summer day use.

Thanks!

Alpinestars SMX6 wp. You're going to have an issue in hot weather as none of the waterproof boots have vents for obvious reasons.

Pete,

What about waterproof socks, like Sealskinz?? Keep the boots you love AND have dry feet.

These were what I was thinking as have had the SMX range for some years. Keen to hear some other options too in case there is better.

I thought about this, but on a tour I'd need lots of pairs and the soaked through boots would still have that sloppy heavy waterlogged feel.

How do you reckon??
3 pairs, one of which you're wearing. Just wash each night and you have 2 days for then to day as you rotate socks.
That way if the weather is 100% good you can wear your usual socks and boots and have comfy feet. Waterproof boots might be a bit toasty if the weather is warm maybe??

TCX. Brilliant boots that don't cost the earth. (TCX only make boots so their stuff is pretty good).

Wash! I don't even carry dirty laundry - Last tour I took 12 pairs of old socks, 12 pairs of old pants, 12 old t-shirts and binned a set each evening. Plus doing washing eats into valuable drinking time smile

On the plus side with all the spare space at Calais on the way back, guess who fitted £100+ of booze/cheese/pate/chocolate into their panniers and ruck sack...?

Is that what you had on, on the trip? Did your feet stay dry even in the mental Gorge du Verdon rain? Are they the S-Speeds?

So imagine how much Duty Free you could stash in a full dress Goldwing with trailer.......It's a slippery slope Pete wink

A big recommendation for A* SMX6 Goretex - I've ridden in torrential rain (for an hour or 2 at most) and never had a drop of water come through, and also ridden in 25-30 degree heat and not had hot feet.

They have toe sliders and 90% of the protection you'd expect from race boots too.

Keep looking at these for the same reasons, Pete http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/c...

Spada also seem to be doing some of these in TCX price range. I've had 2 pairs of gloves from them, always been happy with the quality.

If 4000 miles in a summer on the ZZR taught me anything, it's that I don't like heavy bikes that don't want to turn.

This year's tool, ready to go to the 'Ring in April.

The S Speeds are a good option, I'd go for the alpinestars over those but it's personal preference.

Wouldn't touch spada with a barge pole, we seem to get a lot of it back leaking.

RST is good for the price they seem to be a fair bit cheaper than competitors for comparable stuff. Not seen any come back yet but we've not been doing it too long.

^^ I'm off to get geared in Leatherhead in a couple of weeks if I can't pick anything up at the Excel show next weekend. I'll try the A* SMX6 WP and TCX S-Speed WP then. The RSTs are a bit budget when I've looked before. thumbup

Pete just MTFU. Look at me I went on the same tour as you and I don't own rain gear and all my kit is geared towards summer as I don't ride in cold either [lol]

Oh and ditch the body bag off the back of the R1 and just use your Kriega.

Last two trips with rucksacks add to fatigue - better the body bag on the back smile

I get miserable when I'm wet through on a bike. Waterproofs are quick to add, but overboots and over gloves are a massive ball ache.

Remember on the trip those awful things? In your best Saffa accent "I did not fook a prawn" biglaugh

I've had a pair of these Sidi Gore for three years, ride all year round, and despite the stitching failing on one panel on the left boot they're still pretty waterproof. Cool enough for touring France in July, warm and dry enough to ride round in weather like we have currently. A touch over budget but I'm probably buying another pair when these die..

It was between the Sidi B2, Dianese TRQ tour GTX and SM GTX when I was buying boots, both the Sidis and the Dianese boots didn't fit well, the A* fitted like a glove so the decision was simple. All good boots.
