RE: Ford Mondeo ST200 | Spotted

Hmm. Nice car to drive when new. Reviews at the time I believe were positive although there is a lack of pace and the brakes were noted as poor by I think Evo (which is what I would’ve been reading at the time). I could never get my head around the fact that after the cosworth YB was retired they didn’t see the need to reach at least the 220 bhp produced in a sapphire cosworth. This particular one is crusty and will be a lot worse under the plastics and underneath the car. It’s an interesting motor for someone. But as with most stuff these days I think the price is steep.
I grew up loving Fast Fords, but went off them when they all became FWD even though I know Mondeos did drive really well.
But I bought a 132K mile BMW 325i Touring with full BMWSH in 2018 for just under £3K that had no rust, had similar power (218bhp) and also drove really well.
Apart from the great colour I can't see much to like about this Mondeo!

I ran a 99 Mondeo estate like this (but different engine) from 2005 to 2012. By that point (12 years ago), most of the bodywork was either held together by paint or replaced with an ugly patch. The rust protection was non existent. It was a nice enough car, but I suspect doubling it's life won't have helped with the rust issues
This one clearly isn't in great shape, but I don't get the criticism of these more generally. The Mondeo was a very good car, especially in ST form. No it's not going to be that quick by modern standards, but still plenty quick enough to have fun in. Not everything needs to do 0-60 in 0.8 seconds.
