My missus is really peed off with the car now(she does a lot of miles in it, so she's lost confidence in it), so I reckon there will be a good chance that it will get swapped for something else. Although I'm/we're not sure what to go for though. Time will tell.

I wasn't aware of the CX-60 thanks. Plus I wouldn't say no to the DBX either!

I had the fifth set of rear tyres fitted yesterday, and it will be interesting to see how long these last. Hopefully longer than 3 months/8.5k miles though!

If they don't last, I will go back to Pirellis if I can get them.

The last rears were fitted here on the 7th of February, and they've only lasted 3 months/8.5k again. So I've booked it in for next week for its sixth set of rear tyres, but I've managed to source the original Pirelli P-Zero that were on it from the factory though(I couldn't previously get hold of them). They lasted 20k miles for reference in comparison, so I'm hoping this new set will better than the MPS4S at lasting only 8.5k miles.

It had another hissy fit yesterday, and it went into limp mode, and the fans came on, and they sound like an aeroplane taking off when they do. It disconnects the turbos, and you lose loads of power, and the revs sit really high versus normal.

I think the car thinks that it is overheating, although it actually isn't though. So I reckon there must be a dodgy sensor somewhere I think.
I don't want to tempt fate but the car has behaved itself(touchwood) since March. The only thing we've done differently is actually use the stop/start(leave it operating). Whereas prior to then we always switched it off though.

It might not be linked of course, but it has been behaving ever since though.

It is back on the Pirelli P-Zero now, so we will see how they fair wear wise. The original set that were on it from the factory did wear well though in fairness. I also had a 4 wheel alignment done at the same time, because it has been running the outside edge off a bit on the front passenger side.

An incredible amount of tyres.

For what it's worth, until 2 years ago we always ran AMGs from around 2001, the last being a GLS63 and a V250 AMG at the same time.

Every single one of them scrubbed the outers on the front at a frightening rate.

Since moving to Range Rover, no crabbing and no outer wear.

I'm not sure how MB manage it.

It is mental how it eats through rear tyres as you say for sure. The fronts don't do too bad wear wise though in comparison.

It is funny that you mention the scrubbing on the outer edge too, because our old GLC350d was bad for that on the front passenger as well.

I did manage to get these P-Zero for a £100 cheaper than everyone else was selling them at on Asda Tyres(£346 each instead of £457). However I think someone had made a mistake with the price though, because they've gone back up to £457 again now.

The wear(especially the rears) and cost of the tyres is definitely something to think about with these when you're running the 22" wheels I reckon.

I put up with it without too much thought at the time, but now after 2 years and no new tyres required with Range Rovers, I now see it as a totally unacceptable expense and won't be going back to MB.

God that is poor my X3M wasn't great on tyres they lasted about 14k continentals I think, heavy AWD cars tend to eat tyres, I get well over 30,000 miles on the 7 series but to be fair I'd get 25k+ on all the RWD M cars as well.

Hiya mate! I’m thinking of picking up a GLE400d for dad. Thank you for the thread it’s very informative. Just my 2 pence about the tyre situation. It is generally good practice to buy tyres which are SUV rated. They are manufactured to cope with the higher weight of an SUV. I know as car enthusiasts we naturally lean towards Eagle F1’s, Michelin PSX’s and ContiSport 7’s etc , but they’ll wear fast on a heavy car with a high centre of gravity

Just my personal reconmendation, the Pirelli Scorpions are an excellent choice. It’ll make your GLE400d unstoppable in all weather, snow, rain etc In my opinion an all wheel drive SUV must be absolutely unstoppable in all weather therefore a good SUV all season tyre is the way to go. I’m not 100% sure what the wear rate will be like but I’m sure it’ll be decent

Wonder how US owners get on - mileage warranties are common there.

Yes bud and I managed just over 25k miles on both the front and rear in the M4 on the MPSS too. So in general the Michelins are pretty good wear wise I reckon...just not on this thing though!

Thanks a lot for this, and I'm pleased that the thread has been of some interest to you. thumbup

When I was on my recent tyre search I did notice that you can get both winters and all seasons in this tyre size now. Whereas when we first got the car the choice of tyres was much more limited in comparison.

Should we keep the car for the longer term, then the all seasons will definitely be the way forward I think. The all seasons were fantastic wear wise on the previous GLC350d we had for sure(50k miles on the front and 75k miles on the rear!).

Yes and I believe that Michelin offer around a 30k mile warranty on their tyres as you say. 8.5k miles has fell well short on this for sure. grumpy
