Will you be slowing down for the Firemen's Strike?
Discussion
There has been lots of propaganda on the TV in the last few days about how people should be slowing down for the forthcoming strike by the Firemen. How many PHers will be taking extra care on the roads during the strikes?
I am miffed that yet again they are relating this to speed and I can feel another letter to my local MP brewing. We had a frost in Essex this morning and I saw numerous cars on the road with windows still covered in ice - aggggggggggghhh!

Why haven't the government bought any newer fire appliances? I remember them wheeling out the GGs last time the firemen went on strike, and also when the New Forest caught fire in 1976. They were ancient then - you'd have thought somebody would have had the foresight to replace them by now. You see younger lorries at Classic Truck meets. It's a joke.
Some minister said the firemans strike was "irresponsible and criminally negligent" - I would have thought that underfunding of the armed forces to such and extent that they can respond to an emergency at a maximum of 35mph is "irresponsible and criminally negligent" ! Isn't fire reasonably commonplace in a military confrontation situation ??
Bowlocks to slowing down!! Faster faster faster!!!!!
Nice to see a Labia Government being shafted by the unions - love it!! hoist by their own petard, Joyous rebellion!
Let the troops use the normal fire engines - if not then the Government is failing in its duty of care (I don't give a shit who "owns" them - I paid me tax, I want the service and if local govn'ment won't supply it then central better had, and to the level we've come to expect).
So, no I wont be slowing down.

I'm not getting into this one again!

Lets hope we don't have to go to a strike eh?
given that if the firemen strike, they won't get paid, stations won't be manned and fire engines won't be run, we should get a proportionate refund on our council tax.. you know.. the bit that says "Fire Service.... £389" in the itemisation..
If not, why the hell not??? They're not paying the money out and the govenrment won't take it of them to cover the cost of the GGs and forces etc..
oh yea - will I be slowing down? Will I bollocks.. who the hell drives fast (or recklessly) consciously or subconciously thinking that a nice burly fireman with big cutting tool will be able to rescue them if it all goes wrong??

Oh well, while she's in hospital, snapped in half having fulfilled her Cronenbergesque Fireman Fantasy, you'll have plenty of time to flirt with S girl and get some serious drinking and misbehaving done
On a more serious note, my dad was in an accident about two months back and had to be cut out of his car by the fire brigade.. he was driving along.. woman ran a stop sign on perpendicular road, not paying attention.. T boned him without slowing from 30.. not pretty.
Fortunately, she wasn't going anywhere and was nicked - my dad isn't in the best of health she's being charged with something fairly harsh ... good.. fcuking stupid bitch.

totally - ISTR there are 30+ applications for every fireman's position that opens up..

38 as it happens!
Personally I would give them the money as they do a worthwhile job, I'd also give the same sort of money to nurses. To pay for this I would automate the Tube and sack all the drivers without severance becuase I really am sick of them fcukers whining on.

ha, would be quicker than under their own steam. Max speed of 35mph!!!
Maybe this is a attempt to speed them up.
Andy
I saw loads yesterday on the junction of the M25 and the A2 in Kent. They looked pathetic.
I am seriously worried by what might happen with these.
professionals dont go on strike.
Dont join if you dont like the pay/working conditions. Leave if you want higher pay and can get it.
Totally unrealistic pay demand. It me as a flipping muppet over a barrel who loves cars who will be forced to pay this pay demand. Married, no kids self employed.
30K for a fireman!! 4 days on 4 off. sounds better then the teachers get. sounds better then i get. I think I will become a fireman if they get the rise.
I hope their pay is suspended while on strike and meals and acommodation.
Are some firemen not on strike?? What % ?? anyone know.?

Hmm.. tricky debate though... the FBU afe effectively goading the government into this stalemate situation, however the government can't back down or suddenly every nurse, policeman and binman will want a 40% rise too. Theres no way Gordon Brown can maintain financial stability with that kind of lay out therefore theres no was B.liar will give in to the demand.
