£70 parking fine for 15 mins.
Discussion
I'll let "Blown" carry on ranting......
Anyway, there has been nothing in the post yet so I would imagine that even the operators recognise that prior to Christmas in a huge and very busy store (that also had plenty of empty spaces in the car park), going a few minutes over on parking was not really crime of the year.
The store in question is very new, huge and the car park is also huge and underneath it so a bit of a trek. Lots of factors on that visit combined to make her stay longer than expected or wanted. She said that she would pay it if they write to ask her for it; she is not the sort of person to abuse parking, she never uses disabled bays, double yellows, she doesn't double park to nip in anywhere or anything like that and she would never normally overstay in a car park whether it be free for a duration or paid for.
Incidentally; the town is some 3 miles away which would be a long way to walk with 2 toddlers for the sake of some free parking. There are other shops near to the Sainsburys but too far and too dangerous to negotiate the busy dual carriageway roads with 2 toddlers.

This supermarket shopping sounds like a nightmare. Do people do it willingly?
I know a couple of retired-aged people who go because it's somewhere to go/gets them out. At weekends We're minutes from countryside and half an hour to the coast. Lack of imagination I guess.3 hrs?? Woman + friend + cafe = possible.

The plot thickens, I contacted the local council about their recycle plant within Sainsbury's car park, and the impact on people being caught out on the "2 hour return policy. Today's email from the council.
I spoke to a store manager yesterday evening and it seems that there has been a misunderstanding about the parking policy. The parking limit is 2 hours but you can come back any time you want as long as each stay is not more than 2 hours.
Totally conflicting with Euro Car Parks letter to me and the sign in the car park. Now to write to the manager and get him to confirm this, don't want to get caught out.
I am wondering if the reference to 2 hours parking is a typo, signs say 3.
It wouldn't be the first time that the two contracting parties are not singing from the same hymn sheet. Usually it's the PPC trying to move the goalposts to its advantage like PE has been doing for years at Aldi in Portslade.I spoke to a store manager yesterday evening and it seems that there has been a misunderstanding about the parking policy. Another question if I may. In your case is it Sainsbury's who have contracted with the PPC or are there other retail outlets on site and the freeholder (or their managing agents) have done the deed?

i've been over this, but i may as well go again.
if you've spent 3 hours in a supermarket you are a lunatic, and if you've got kids with you then i hope they screamed solidly the whole time. However no-one would ever spend 3 hours in a supermarket, i just won't accept that it ever happens, fking key cutters or no. It's fundamentally a lie, and basically they weren't in the supermarket. They were off in town shopping, enjoying spending the money they didn't 'waste' by parking in a proper car park.
However it is even the made up st that's annoyed me most, it's the attitude amongst some of the people posting in response that there is some justifiable right to complain in this scenario, that in some way even though they were solely at fault, and no-one made them break the clearly defined rules, that they were STILL somehow wronged. That even though the supermarket have put in place these exact rules to stop just these type of people from taking just the same kind of the piss, that in some way they'll make an exception because these people are the special ones. Further, that using leverage of being a 'good customer' and all the money they spend in the store, except they actually didn't, and that's putting good bullst after bad. Like the supermarket don't know exactly what's going on, and don't get 500 such letters a week.

Customers need to know where they stand. His comments to the council email are in contradiction to the notices posted on the car park.

The plot thickens re Sainsburys car park at Garthdee and Euro Car Parks.
Bearing in mind their sign states "No return within 2 hours".
I wrote to Euro Car Parks and asked if I drop my wife off in the car park, and exit, can I return within 2 hours and not be caught in the "Return within 2 hour policy".
Their response in writing :-
With reference to dropping someone off at the car park, you still need to wait 2 hours before you return to the car park.
I also wrote to Sainsburys head office in London, they said:-
I've spoken with a colleague at our Garthdee store to discuss this issue. She has confirmed with the Deputy Manage that the information you received from Euro Car Parks is incorrect and that the store does not have a two hour no return" policy in place
Meanwhile an earlier email to Euro Car Parks, came back with this little gem:-
There should be no issue providing you do not overstay. There is a grace period for vehicles to arrive read the signage and depart
WTF. So now thats cleared up, its a letter back to Sainsburys and suggest they get the bloody sign amended. What a bunch of tossers.

My father often meets his business partners at motorway services; the discussions and endless cups of £5 coffee often go on for 3 hours.
We get these letters from PE almost every week.
The annoying thing is not the telling them to FO but the fact that the car lease company charges £20 each time a letter goes via them.
